How did I play this hand? How did I play this hand?

Well guys I am running very bad.. I've lost a large % of my roll over the past few months taking a lot of tough beats.. I was playing at 1/2 and 1/3 and doing well but now I am back down at .25/.50. I've decided that a need to start posting hands because obviously I have a leak somewhere. So here is my first one.

I am the BB at a .25/.50 6 man game. UTG raises to $2, and the table folds around to me. I have pocket 9c9s. I call. Pot= 4.25

Flop: QhQs3d

I lead out and bet $2.50, Villain calls. Pot= 9.25

Turn: Qc

I bet $6, and he calls. Pot= 21.25

River: 6c

I bet $15 he calls, and shows 10s10d....

Maybe I shouldnt have continued to bet, but I figured pretty much every better hand raises me in this situation and I wasn't going to fold on most bets that he would make.

Anyways let me know what you think.

Personally I would 3 bet the 99. Then you show strength and can play more deceptive. I'm not so sure he would go as far with TT as he did then. However since you didn't 3 bet, he could assume that you have something worse than him.

I think at least the river bet was quite unnecessary as anything worse than 99 is likely to fold. So you are basically offering a huge amount of money to whoever has good enough hand to grab it, with little reward.

I think turn bet is maybe okay, not sure if betting half pot there is better or not.

On the river I would definitely check. maybe fold depending on opponent bet size. If he bets huge I would fold, since I doubt he will sit there with something like 55 or AK and just give a huge bet after all the strength that you have shown. If he bets half pot and you call, you would still save 5$ which is a lot! Still what would he bet half pot here with? Probably only something that beats you unless he's a fish.

I think your leak is the most fundamental mistake in poker. It is that you bet while you are beaten by a larger portion of opponents hand range than you beat. Exercize some pot control and consider folding if you think that there is a higher % chance than not that your opponent has a better hand.
