This is my first post asking for hand advice.

Thought I had a solid read on this player and was a little concerned about his turn 3/4 bet, but felt my K was live and that he might have had some other pair/draw.

** Dealing down cards **
Dealt to Hero [ Jh, Kc ]
Taron_14 folds
Villain raises [$1.50]
Hero calls [$1.50]
kazanan11 folds
mugiwara_boy folds
** Dealing flop ** [ 2d, Kd, 6d ]
Villain bets [$2.81]
Hero calls [$2.81]
** Dealing turn ** [ 9c ]
Villain bets [$6.18]
Hero raises [$14.36]
Villain calls [$8.18]
** Dealing river ** [ 5c ]
Villain checks
Hero checks
** Summary **
Villain shows [ 9d, 8d}
Hero mucks [ Jh, Kc ]
Villain collected [ $36.19 ]

I decided to raise the turn to put him to the test and see if he did have a better hand. Any advice on how to play this hand better?

I wouldn't raise the turn. I would actually call the flop and the turn and maybe fold the river depending on his bet size and his style. It would be helpfull if you have given some info about the villain

Not sure if 50nl is the place for you. You shouldn't be raising (or betting) for information.

And put the hh in a converter, it is much easier to read that way.

No offense but I think you should start at the lowest limits and work your way up as your game improves.

Raising is pretty thin. AdX draws will call but anything else that calls has you beat. Suppose you might be able to move villain off KQ and worse Kx but as he raised from MP he doesn't have many worse Kx.

You shouldn't ever be raising to 'put him to the test' anyway.

Everything you wrote in your OP suggests you're not a cash game reg and you're not used to the right thought processes of 50nl. I'd drop limits and prove you can beat lower levels before trying 50nl.

I don't know what HH converter you were using, but you should include what stack sizes people start off the hand with.

50nl is totally the place for you, don't listen to these morons, none of them are very good.

I got almost 10k posts, so you should listen to me.

Thanks for all the input! I definitely should read more posts on here and get down with the lingo.

Just found the deuces crack HH converter and will use that in the future unless someone can suggest something better.

So Villain made an unorthodox play after over 200+ hands in the session and so that is why I played the hand the way I did. After reading your comments and thinking about it more I should have just check called/folded granted his position.

This is also on 888 which I have found to be full of weak regs and random fish which I search out and mostly play against. I can hand the .25/.50 here and have a 5k hand winning graph 1 or 2 tabling (over the last week just got PT4)

On pokerstars or anywhere else I would be dead money at the same stakes and play .01/.02 .02/.05 and am break even there.

I am formally from North America and never played online until now that I am in Aussieland so it has been an interesting transition from live to online. Ryan Fee's online book and youtube videos have been super helpful and I hope to use this community to become a more profitable player.

Thanks for all the input!!!

i was kidding fwiw.

you should almost never really raise a turn to find out where you're at, because all the times you find out where you're at you lose more money, it's a mistake a lot of beginners make and that's why people are giving you **** itt.

Throwing stuff at other players is great! Helps with tilting the nits!

Ahh that is a valid point.

What if you know they bluff bet the turn with a pot sizing tell. Would a raise still be wrong?

than it's even more wrong because why would you want him to fold a bluff?

Again valid point.

Two things I do
1. If I call and have nothing and float because I know he makes this move. So my nothing beats his nothing. (in position of course)

2. If I have a low pair lets say I had 84o from bb and hit a pair of 4s and somehow it gets to turn and he does the bet tell. I don't want to call and give him the extra card to possibly catch up especially when I know he folds 99% of the time.

If I had the nuts or close to I would call.

Agree?

5k hands is a lol sample. I've not played 50nl at 888 but if it was THAT soft you'd soon see a huge exodus from Pokerstars. I can accept it maybe plays like 25nl on other sites since I know there's a big fish pool as I play there myself, but it's not going to play like 5nl on Stars.

888 is easily one of the softest sites, but they only allow 6 tables and they don't have rb, that's why there aren't a lot of regs

fold pre obv. and strongly advice you to do a lot more studying, it's a bit too much for me to respond to.

I wish I had PT for longer than a week so that I had more of a graph. Hopefully will have 25k+ hands by the end of the trial period and then will end up buying it. (yes I understand 5k is a drop in a bucket, but it is a start)

Those are my experience and YES I am naive about much of online poker and hopefully within the year will understand the game better.

No doubt, but if one could beat 50nl there while still raising to 'put villain to the test', the lack of rakeback/high rake would easily be compensated for by a much higher winrate.

I can well believe it's softer...but not THAT soft! lol.
