Full Tilt Poker $0.05/$0.10 No Limit Hold'em - 6 players
The Official 2+2 Hand Converter Powered By DeucesCracked.com

BB: $10.43
Hero (UTG): $38.39
MP: $11.03
CO: $16.87
BTN: $10.04
SB: $10.31

Pre Flop: ($0.15) Hero is UTG with 9 A
Hero raises to $0.40, MP calls $0.40, 4 folds

Flop: ($0.95) K 4 T (2 players)
Hero bets $0.60, MP calls $0.60

Turn: ($2.15) 8 (2 players)
Hero checks, MP bets $1.50, Hero folds

My stats on the MP player are 13/12 over 76 hands of data. My stats were 37/20 with 39% Att to steal. Should I even open A9o UTG in a 6max game with somewhat loose players (but who have low 3bet%) behind me? As played, should I have just given up on this flop and checked instead of c-bet, since this board hits his preflop calling range pretty well?

Yeah this cbet is fine, his most likely hand is a pair that's setmining, and this flop hits your UTG range pretty well.

You play waaay too many pots, and call far too many raises. And I don't think A9o is a good open UTG at 10NL. Your range should be very tight, unless the players behind you are nitty and the blinds are spew.

I wouldn't suggest opening A9os from UTG vs loose players.

I wouldn't suggest opening A9os from UTG vs tight players. I wouldn't narrow his range down to just pocket pairs.

I also wouldn't suggest cbetting a KT flop vs somebody playing 13% of their hands whom is in mp.

Somebody playing 13% of their hands are probably raising AA, KK and calling almost the rest of their range.

22-QQ

AK, AQ, AJ,

KQ, KJ, QJ

which is 11.3%

Eliminate all hands that will call this flop, QQ, Kx, JJ, TT, 44 and draw hands and that leaves you 6.5%

So he's calling you with 50% of his preflop calling range with some type of hand and if he's floating with hands like AQ, 99, 88, 77 that means your cbet is trying to push him off the 3% being AJ, 66, 55, 33, 22 he might be holding....and who knows, he might even call a couple of these hands looking to see if you'll slow down on the turn.

In conclusion, this guy is way too tight preflop to cbet this flop.

If you had a few hundred more hands on him you could see if his fold to cbet % was high and then this would change things possibly.

Excellent analysis! You are 100% right here in my opinion.

The 37/20 stats for me in this hand dont really reflect my REAL stats, as I was running pretty good in this session. However, I do agree that I am probably not raising/3betting enough when I enter pots. My real stats over thousands of hands are 26/13 and I play mostly 6max but some full ring. I have always thought that there is too big a gap between my VPIP and PFR and I feel like I dont know exactly how to correct it or if I should. Because I feel like I have the initiative most of the time that I am in the pot, except in hands where, for example, there are 2 callers in front of me and I have say a small pocket pair on the button. I almost always flat call in this spot in order to see a cheap flop and setmine or steal the pot on the flop. Hands like that are the reason my VPIP is so much higher than my PFR, so what adjustments would you make if you were me?
