No reads on villian, confused by river bet. I can see what he could have that he would check call the turn with? I feel he would have continued betting if he turned a flush draw. So this leaves us with a slow played full house. A overpair played extremely strange, or a bluff. Just a weird spot any opinions peoples

Not a good idea unless you want to play for your stack.

Zander just wondering what your thoughts are on this. Does villain just flat call a raise or does he reraise? Because if he reraises im folding and if he flat calls im checking turn unimproved.

If you raise the flop, nearly every hand you beat will fold, so you'll only ever win the immediate pot. You're either Way ahead, like 75% to win v. overs, or youre way behind and drawing to 2 outs cause he has a 5, 33, an overpair... anything that beats a pair of Eights. you win $2.50 of his money

If you raise and he calls, you're pretty sure youre dead to an 8. A raise is gonna cost around $6. You aren't gonna win a showdown, hardly ever, and there's a decent chance you'll face a river bet, which you'll probably call. You lose > $7 every time unless you hit an 8.

If you raise and fold, you lose $7 every time.

If you call the flop, you can call a $4 turn bet, and fold the river if he bets again, or you can even fold the turn if you want.

If he checks the turn, you can bet at it and steal the pot, or check behind an snap a $4 river bluff.

If he checks to the river, you might bet.

By calling the flop, you control the pot and the way the hand plays out. You can call 2 bets for less than what it costs to raise the flop, and Now You have a chance to win a medium pot with or w/o a showdown since you chose not to turn your hand into a bluff on the flop.

Less risk, more reward. Also, if people see you do this to them, they might start getting tilted cause you called 2 streets w/ a middle pair, it might discourage them from cbetting, could get them to stack off light, and you win more/lose less money.

Yikes, that is a weird spot.

I think I check behind on turn, but as played, probably fold. Seems like Fives full or something of that nature. Very weird spot indeed.

This is exactly what i was doing in this situation. I was looking at it as a normal cbet and figuring would just pick up the pot with a turn bet. When he calls the turn, I'm planning on calling a small leadout or checking back the river.
