Curious - how come fish win so much? Curious - how come fish win so much?

05-30-2012 , 10:30 PM
Yesterday I was playing NL2 and there's this fish who was like 90/50... he won around $4 in less than 100 hands... I know that that obviously is NOT the way to play but I'm curious, if it's the wrong play style, how come fish like that can earn so much?

Anyway I thought he was loose and I thought my AJ was good against him on a JQ7 board so I value-betted all the way, in the end he was holding Q9 so I just lost my day's winnings to him. Anyway for that hand another played raised PF.

So 2 questions: how come such a play style is profitable, and how to play against such players?

Variance.

Everyone at 2NL is a fish. Keep doing what i suggested the other day and you'll be fine. I like the K.I.S.S. acronym for these stakes:

Keep It Simple, Stupid

In b4 lock

Lock? Why lock?

Is it against the rules to post such threads? I didn't know, so sorry!

Yes, because it's not a strategy thread. No offence, but it's basically a whining thread which should go in BBV (seriously no offence bro). You will just get berated for it.

Fish sometimes win hands, that is poker. If fish never won a hand, there would be no fish.

If you want brutal honesty, here it goes. The reason why you might think you're not beating the other fish yet, well it's because you're also a fish. In fact, we're all fish in a way, we're fish to players that are significantly better than us. It's actually one of the best things you can do for yourself as a player, to admit you're a fish and to work on your game.

Study the game, play the game, study more, play more, rinse and repeat.

Remember to read the COTW's and have decent bankroll management.

Good luck!

Oh, I didn't know, sorry! Please close this thread then!

WHat's COTW and BBV? I'm new, and unfamiliar with the acronyms thrown around so often here!

i can't lock it, i'm just another fish

Here's what i replied to one of your first posts in this forum, the other day:

If you want to beat this game, you'll need to invest a bit more than $10.

Once you do have a decent bankroll to play at your stakes, ensure you buy in full and use auto-rebuy.

Post hands you are having problems with & read the COTW's (concept of the week - see stickies).

If you do all of the above, you will vastly improve your game in not too long. Have a look at other player's hand histories too, this will help you understand reasons behind certain plays.

Good luck!
As a general rule, have a bankroll of at least 20-30 buy-ins for each stake you play.

Sorry the COTW's are actually in the Full Ring forum where i used to lurk:

Click here for strategy relating to this 6max forum:

BBV = Beats, Brags & Variance. There's various threads and i think a whole forum dedicated to those sort of discussions.

You don't see the 20 sessions where he loses 10x as much.
