i should bug rbk to post a pic of his setup. he has a really ergonomic chair/keyboard/mouse setup. in addition to the evoluent i also use an ergonomic keyboard that has the number pad on the left side which is very nice as well (i would post a link but too drunk to look it up).

Vertical mouse is good. Also you can do some exercises if you just ask your doctor. A lot of the same motions that are causing pain for people who play poker or just use a computer in general too much have been causing pain for different professions for a much longer time. I think my doctor said he sees similar cases in a lot of roofers and masons around my area. They have pamphlets that show 4 or 5 simple exercises that help to strengthen your joints long-term.

For the short term I would suggest a sturdy chair. I had a big soft comfortable chair from office max and it made my elbow and back hurt much worse.

I think rbk was one of the people that suggested a Steelcase Worklounge chair awhile back in HSNL. I got one about 2 weeks ago and it is amazing. Its a little pricey for the chair and ottoman (like 3kish), but they have a more standard work chair that was also very comfortable for like 1kish, which I believe is comparable to the aeron. I did a lot of searching sitting in all of their models preferring the steelcase by a lot.

I second the gamepad suggestion. With the added suggestion that with the right AHK script you can also use the gamepad to navigate from table to table. I have the Rumblepad 2 and really like it. It allows me to sit back with my hands in my lap.

ive had months where I grinded out near 200k hands.... been playing for like 3 years, never had a problem just using gel cushioned mouse pad along with a small stool or anything you can use to rest your elbow on to alleviate all weight/pressure from your wrist.

yea from what my doctor told me it's pretty well known now that these wrist pads compress things in your wrist that arent supposed to be compressed

i can say from personal experience that i feel a lot better after ditching mine but i'm not sure how much of that i should attribute to the new mouse/setup, etc

I'm new to AHK, which script allows this?

FWIW - I use a thumb trackball, it's nice but it does strain my thumb/wrist. That's why I want to use a gamepad, but I'm new to this concept.

Two more suggestions.

WHen the elbow gets sore, you can turn your hand around, put the back of your hand on the table, and work like that. Sounds weird, but trust me. Remember too, to support yourarm with something, not your wrist and elbow!

ALso, let your arm hang vertically, and shake it all about! Works really well, seems to destress things!

no comments on the mx1000?

it looks like the battery life for the mx revolution is fairly pitiful but for this one it's several days.

Yeah, it's really not an issue for me either. Once a week I'll have to recharge it, if that, and I have my trackman which is a nice change anyway.

I'm currently using an MX 1000 that I've had for 3 years. Don't play full-time but still it's seen a lot of use.

My ex-gf used the MX Revolution, and I've tried it several times. I _far_ prefer the MX 1000. Just easier on the hand, even though it's heavier. Battery time is very good, I don't think there's a big difference between the two. That being said both my gf and my dad got some problems with the battery of the Rev. Small sample size obv

I heartily recommend the 1000, very good mouse with all the buttons you need.

Yesterday was the first time I played on over a week and the fingers I use on the keyboard were definitely stiffer after a few hours of play. I think I may try the gamepad. What I think would help is if there was some sort of touch pad that I can use instead of the keyboard, because with the keyboard, my fingers have to be curled the whole time. Anyone use any other alternate input device (other than mouse, keyboard, gamepad)? Maybe if I cycle thru several devices, I can reduce the repetitive strain.

I also have an ergonomic chair, and I recommend one to anyone who spends a reasonable amount of time at their desk. I have the steelcase leap, which I liked more than the aeron, but I am also quite tall. I recommend going to furniture stores and sitting in the Steelcase Leap, the new Herman Miller Embody, and the Humanscale Freedom, and then picking your favourite.

Quick question about the above pic- it looks brilliant, and i did a bit of research on it, the thumb does the left/right click, and there is a third button on the index finger i think.

How do you use this mouse with a betpot slider? Or is it best when there are bet pot/half pot buttons like party.

I am in the market for a new mouse, am tossing up between this one and the vertical mouse

Dunno if I'll explain this right...

Actually the best exercise for that is : find a wall, but your palm on it with your fingers poiting to the ground... like palm first, hand upside down.

Then push your hand to try and stick your palm to the wall... hold it for like 20 secs. like any other warmup exercise.

Do that after every session, should be good.
