So I play on Pokerstars and seem to be really struggling to adjust at 5nl and its getting really frustrating for me! I constantly find myself dropping back down to built my roll back up.

Any advise would be awesome, thanks.

We all struggle, I lost $11,000 in one session the other day.

What is your goal with poker? Are you a recreational player, or do you seriously want to go pro?

You can become a winning NL50 player simply by studying the game and applying strict table selection, but it will require discipline and a lot of hard work.

play tight preflop, fold when you know you are beat. Limit tilt at all costs. If you feel like you might be tilting, or you start to alter your game plan b/c of a bad beat, just get off the tables for a couple hours/days.

I like to think i'm quite a serious player, i mean I've only been playing for around 5 months and by no means do i claim to be an amazing player its just i'm beating the 2nl games no problem but seem to be stuck trying to move up 1 stake and it's pretty frustrating. I guess i'm underestimating the players at 5nl. And sorry for your loss.

2nl and 5nl pretty much the same stake. I don't think anyone is playing 5nl for living...
So it's mostly weak players. If you just study more and read articles, watch vids etc. you will crush this stake very soon.

From memory, the difference between 2nl and 5nl is pretty huge. Yes, almost everyone is still awful at 5nl, but the number of 73/4 players goes down considerably.

The realisation that at 5nl you can't tilt off a buyin here and there and still expect to crush will probably be enough to beat the stake if you are anything like me when I was playing 5nl.

Don't bluff. Fold to more raises. Widen your value range and then bet/fold is your friend vs fishy fishes at NL5.

Don't play Zoom.

Study, review, be honest with yourself about tilt/bad play.

Do bluff btw. Not bluffing is a huge leak. Just pick your spots.

It's hard to give advice when nobody has any indication of how you play, but I'll try to present something a little more useful than "pray to your god." A basic ABC strategy should be sufficient to give you a positive winrate at 5NL. Generally the players will have a tendency to call down too often and you should VB relentlessly to punish this. This alone will make you a winner. Other things to try might be to limit the amount of pots you're involved in where you do not have the lead and to be prepared to 2 barrel a large portion of your FCB range. I've observed when I play 5NL that it usually takes 2 barrels before opponents start to consider folding. And finally never slowplay. Like I said the players call down wider than the range they value bet.

Anyways those are a few things that come to mind. Caveat I don't claim to be anything special, but I do have a flat redline and a solid WR playing 5NL. In the end I'm fully aware that I'm a weak player playing against weaker players, but I'm ok with that. GL.
