Anyone toyed around with a more aggressive bankroll management strategy?
Games are pretty soft where I’m at and I’ve gone from .2/.4 to 1/2 on a 20 buyin roll moving down when required. I had to spend a bunch of my roll on real life stuff and hit a downswing at the same time. About a month ago I had to start at 20NL again and it’s been a ball wrenching experience thinking I needed to make a **** ton of buyins at a stake that’s hard to take seriously because of the value of each pot. I decided to aim for 10 buyins at each stake and drop down if I lost two buyins at the current shot. It’s been going pretty well I’m just wondering if anyone else has tried something like this? Is there anyone who knows something I don’t that can tell me what the pitfalls are with this approach? What’s your bankroll strategy and is the value of having a safer approach worth the cost of time it takes to get to your target?

I prefer to have at least 30 buy ins for the stake I’m at. And the better I’m rolled the better poker I feel I play.

I think at the very lowest stakes taking a shot with 20 buy ins is ok imo if you are better than the pool, but I think with only 10 buy ins at any stake it is just a matter of time before you go broke.

10 buy in swings feel like nothing at times. id feel pretty uncomfortable and results orientated knowing i had 10 buy ins for a particular level.

I agree that the size of the bankroll strongly affects my play. It is a lot easier to accept loss as part of the game when properly rolled.

No way you ever would want to consider going more aggro than 15 unless you can easily redeposit

I personally would never go under 30, but if you can mentally handle the swings with 20 and have no problem moving down when necessary, then go for it

Sounds like you might have an issue with that though if you can't take 20nl "seriously"

I meant to say on this point, one of the best things I’ve done is convert currency to BB’s when I’m playing. Not sure where you play but you can do this on stars. Just means that you are focusing on your stack rather than the monetary value of it regardless of the stakes you are playing.

Thinking about the value of the pot, e.g. “this wouldn’t even buy me a beer” won’t help you make sound decisions!

Playing a game with a negative expectation is a mistake regardless of the bankroll system. You can't get your earn back after it's been spent, you can only make new earn in a hopefully more +EV setting.

careful with the nut peddling, don't hurt yourself

Yeah, I wouldn't do this unless: one, it's a "challenge" with a limited time scope, and two, I could easily redeposit.

Agree that you should switch to showing bb's instead of the real dollar amount, if it's possible on your site, if playing lower stakes effects you mentally.
