Hi -

Absolutely no history with this opponent as he had just sat down for his first hand, and I had never played with him previously. The only information I did have on him is that he did not post and waited for the blind to rotate to him (from UTG+1). Here is the hand:

Merge, $0.10/$0.25 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players
Poker Tools Powered By Holdem Manager - The Ultimate Poker Software Suite. View Hand #20647641

    MP: $26.06 (104.2 bb)
    CO: $25.93 (103.7 bb)
    BTN: $20.21 (80.8 bb)
    Hero (SB): $44.76 (179 bb)
    BB: $25 (100 bb)
    UTG: $38.48 (153.9 bb)

Preflop: Hero is SB with A 9
4 folds, Hero completes, BB checks

I've recently been playing around with limping my SB with the entirety of my range and leading most flops in tournaments. I don't think I like this play in cash, and have since stopped doing it.

    Flop: ($0.50) 6 A T (2 players)
Hero bets $0.50, BB raises to $2, Hero calls $1.50

I am a bit confused by this raise, as I expect most of the value raise hands he could have are raising preflop (I would like to think most players raise A10-AK, AA, 1010 preflop blind v blind) The only value raises that would not raise preflop are 66 (still might raise) 610 and pair + flush draws in my mind.

    Turn: ($4.50) 3 (2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets $3, Hero calls $3

Here is the only spot that I think I may have wanted to fold. I think most players would check behind 6cxc here which is a very large portion of what he could have that I am ahead of.

    River: ($10.50) 9 (2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets $7, Hero raises to $39.51 and is all-in, BB calls $12.75 and is all-in

This is possibly spew in the raise, at this point I have to Check/Call at the very least. I am beating everything he could possibly have except A10/66, unless he was barreling a gut shot like crazy which I do not think most players would do on their first hand at a new table.

I figure on the river, his calling range is 610, A6, 66, A10, weaker aces that just do not believe my line (it is nl25), as well as obvious barrel gutshot straights that got there (this is obviously taking into consideration my belief of preflop raising).
Is the value raise to thin? Should I have folded the turn vs an unknown?

    I appreciate the analysis/advice.

Good. Not sure about doing it in tournaments either but I am out of touch with the strategy there.

River should def be a call not a raise. 87 and 66 still in his range, and not too many hands you beat that will call a raise.

I think villain would raise AT and A6 most of the time pre fwiw.

    Thanks TWhelan.

Do you think that most 2P hands aren't calling that raise? It is a very dry board, and at least from my part I think there are very very few sets in my range without a raise preflop (33 and 66 still seem even borderline). I think any 2P/any set is calling that raise as well as 78.

I think 2pair will call but it is hard for villain to have a worse 2pair than you anyway so not much value in raising river

    raise preflop
x-call river no point in raising

from what I heard in few videos of few strong players , limping sb vs bb is fine in a specific situation with specific part of your range
I do not like limping every hand pre I think you are missing great value in stealing preflop and anyone comptent better players will put you in a lot of trouble
