villain: 21/15/ 3bet 9.1; 80% flop cbet

limp/call was my plan pre mainly to avoid getting 3bet and folding (table was aggressive, so wasn't overly worried about causing a waterfall of limpers) - thinking is by limping, someone probably raises (announcing high/good cards), others fold, and I can cap the preflop action by calling and set mining for cheaper. I only do this UTG (and only 1/3rd of the time)....

Preflop: Hero is UTG with 4 4
Hero raises to $0.10, 4 folds, BB raises to $0.35, Hero calls $0.25

Flop: ($0.72) 4 5 5 (2 players)

Turn: ($1.42) Q (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $0.45, BB raises to $0.90, Hero raises to $2.20, [color="red"]BB ....

I don't recommend open limping because you can only win the pot by bluffing postflop or having the best hand at showdown.

As played, I would just flat the turn c/r because we aren't concerned about getting drawn out on and villain may decide to bet the river. We also need to protect the rest of our range, such as Qx combos that floated the flop and now made top pair.
