If you bet turn, your turning AA into a bluff.

Check turn, call smallish river bet. If he bets big on river probably beat, given no reads fold or gamble on call.

So let's put money in the pot against your superstrong range on the turn with our possibly drawing dead aces.

Sure, if you expect villain to be turning his hands into a bluff, just check your T or 5 behind on the turn.

As played I checked turn, planning on calling only a small bet on the river.

Hypothetically speaking, if the turn came a complete blank, what would be the best way to play the turn?

This is cool but most villains won't be doing this and will be happy to take showdown with one pair hands. If I have been playing with you and feel you will be bluffing a lot on the river in spots like this from history I would be more than happy calling a river bet.

Checking back the turn and making a decision on the river if he bets seems by far the best option.
