My thinking was that if the fish had hit a good pair I could get his whole stack, and maybe the other guy would bet before me on the river and I could get that bet as well

You don't have 8 outs, only 4 and you're probably not going to get paid much if you hit it because it's a super obvious 4 card straight and AJ, KJ, QJ, JT are all hands that people often have in this spot.

If the board was like AT48 then yeah, it would be a good spot to call 1bb to win 7 (and hopefully more)

Turn is a fold and river is 10000% a fold. He might very well be blufing with a better hand but likely just has you beat.

Even if his range is huge, on this board you still would go by that?

Never mind UTGs bet, what do you think cut off calls with that losses to J9?

I would still go by that. I'm not gonna do the calcs but I'd say we lose to most 'random' hands here (maybe not entirely random, but with some discretion).
