5NL - Hands from the last session 5NL - Hands from the last session

Morning everyone,

I had my last session which brought a few interesting spots, I have run through my own analysis on two of the most interesting hands, as always 5NL is an interesting land of weird plays so ranges are tough to make and I really have to go off very basic generalities.

Hand 1:

iPoker - $0.05 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 4 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

CO: 62.6 BB (VPIP: 100.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: 0.00, Hands: 1)
BTN: 105.6 BB (VPIP: 100.00, PFR: 100.00, 3Bet Preflop: -, Hands: 1)
Hero (SB): 99 BB
BB: 93.6 BB (VPIP: 0.00, PFR: 0.00, 3Bet Preflop: -, Hands: 1)

Hero posts SB 0.4 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.4 BB) Hero has J J

CO calls 1 BB, fold, Hero raises to 5 BB, fold, CO calls 4 BB

Reads on villain are that in 2 hands he has now limp called both, I am pleased with my preflop sizing. I make it larger for value, likely 0ish fold equity, and my being out of position. When villain flats I give him something like:

88-22,ATo-A2o,KJo-K8o,QJo-Q8o,JTo-J8o,T9o-T8o,98o-97o,87o,76o,65o,54o,43o,A9s-A2s,KTs-K6s,QJs-Q6s,JTs-J7s,T9s-T7s,98s-96s,87s-86s,76s-75s,65s-64s,54s-53s,43s,32s

Flop: (11 BB, 2 players) 8 7 T
Hero bets 8 BB, CO calls 8 BB

Bet on the flop is clearly for value, he is calling with just about any pair, nine, gutshot, and of course the hands he is beating me with.

The call on the flop is semi telling as many players at 5NL will raise their value hands here because they are afraid of turn cards that complete the straight, however, the turn raise is more likely so I am not putting much weight into that assumption. I range him as such:

88-66,ATo-A8o,KTo-K8o,QTo-Q8o,JTo-J8o,T9o-T8o,98o-97o,87o,76o,65o,A9s-A8s,KTs-K8s,QTs-Q8s,JTs-J7s,T9s-T7s,98s-96s,87s-86s,76s,65s-64s,[50]A6o,KJo,QJo,54o,A6s,K6s,QJs,Q6s,54s[/50]

Turn: (27 BB, 2 players) T
Hero checks, CO checks

After taking the time and running through flopzilla, I feel as though this turn check is a major mistake versus this specific villain. I saw the ten and immediately went to trips in my head however that is such a small portion of his range.

I feel like I would still be getting huge value from all 9's, pair plus gutshots, and some middling hands. Flopzilla says I have about 70% equity versus his current range.

His turn check behind make me mostly eliminate huge value hands from his range, I think all T's bet, and the only value hands that can truly check behind are T8, T7, 88 and 77. Range is the same as flop due to check check.

River: (27 BB, 2 players) Q
Hero checks, CO bets 27 BB, Hero calls 27 BB

This river card is interesting as there are not too many flush draws in his range and there can't be many queens as I block QJ but he does have a few combos of Q9 and Q6.

I time banked super hard here, my main decision to call was that he checked back turn and is now potting river. Any middling value hands would be turn for the most part as you do not want to give a free card to get beat.

Villain gets to this river with 241 total combos of which I beat 147. I obviously was not able to do this in game but I had an innate feeling there was a chance there was a lot of missed hands in his range and with his sizing he wanted a fold. Are these the things you are looking for in a hand?

Was my turn check horrible? I had about 70% equity at the time according to flop zilla.
