wow. you knew to fold, but didn't.

ok, i must admit i have given the situation of double-paired boards with ace high little consideration. if that's particularly what you want to think about, ok, but i think from your posts you'd be better served by sorting out your preflop game before you concentrate on river play.

just my 2c

You don't raise preflop from UTG with 99 but you raise preflop from MP with A8.....I don't understand you....

Bah, the only thing Hero beats is a bluff with a kicker worse than A (tiny, tiny part of villain's range), and he's going to split with another Ace. Let him take the small pot.

In small pots you really shouldn't be calling with the singular hope of a chop unless the chop is the nuts and you have it.

you lose to everything...fold. And to give you a thought on this, the pairs on the board are both very small making it likely that your ace high loses to any and every pocket pair so its an even worse proposition to call versus like JJTT double paired board.

Right, I'm the only poker player that ever does that.

Thanks, I appreciate all the help I can get. Seriously. I appreciate everybody that takes the time to reply to my posts.

In defense of my preflop game, you're not getting an accurate picture of it from a few posts. The lesson for me, though, is probably noticing that the hands that get weird on me postflop tend to be the ones where I deviate from what I know to do preflop.

Was the game particularly tight? I'll tend to raise up hands like those if I feel I have a shot at the blinds. The blinds themselves are less apt to defend to a middle position raise.

I'm not touching this, though, if I think I'm going to be called.

When I said call, I misread the hand and thought it was heads up. With 4 players in the hand you should fold to the river bet.

I don't play at tables tight enough to steal profitably from MP. My (flawed) thinking was to isolate the limper. Not sure why I thought to do it with A8o though. I just went through my database and had to go all the way back to when I first started playing to find the one other instance where I played A8o from anywhere other than the button or the blinds.
