Poker Stars $0.25/$0.50 No Limit Hold'em - 6 players
2+2 Hand Converter Powered By DeucesCracked

MP: $49.20
Hero (CO): $53.25
BTN: $67.65
SB: $89.00
BB: $90.65
UTG: $50.35

Pre Flop: Hero is CO with T T
UTG raises to $1.85, 1 fold, Hero calls $1.85, 3 folds

Flop: ($4.45) 4 7 8 (2 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets $3.50, UTG calls $3.50

Turn: ($11.45) K (2 players)
UTG checks, Hero checks

River: ($11.45) 5 (2 players)
UTG bets $4, Hero calls $4

This is like my 3rd orbit at the table and so far he has been playing TAGish.

WTF does he have here? I expected him to check-fold on the flop, but he calls? What's he doing this with? What's he have on the river?

Edit: I called because he might be making some kind of blocking bet w/ 99, or 8x...

Since the bet is just a little over 1/3 pot, I think you have an easy call, although it's discouraging that the flush draw and 66/55 got there.

As for Villain's range, I'd expect to see a one-pair hand or a rivered straight, set, or flush. Meanwhile, AK is possible if Villain was suspicious/stubborn enough on the flop.

There's also some chance he was making a lol check on the flop with a set or with, say, AA, and then whiffed on a turn checkraise. But I'd expect to see the other hands I mentioned instead if he's not an auto/c-bettor. (If he is an auto-c-bettor, then his range shifts much more toward the flopped monsters.)

Also, are you betting the turn?

I'm not sure. That king doesn't really figure to have changed anything very often, except when Villain has KdXd, but, then again, KdXd figures to be a decent chunk of his range. And, meanwhile, it seems like now is the best time to get paid by flush draws and possibly 66/55 as well. But the PPs might call a river bet anyway or might bluff/value bet the river if you show turn weakness.

Anyway, if you bet, I think you should fold to a checkraise.

Part of the reason I kind of want to check comes from my limit background. There are a number of limit players who would only have 88, 77 or 44 after checking this flop, and as a result, I have more fear of the lol check at NL tables than maybe I should.

as a NL player, I feel like betting the turn would be a great play in this spot to make our villain pay for his T9dd draw etc. Betting the turn also helps keep pot control and thats very well needed in a spot like this. The best line here would be to bet, bet/fold(if he raises pot), and check the river(if checked to). Don't try to value bet this river in this spot. As played, I would think after checking the turn and betting 4 on the river, he has a hand like AK.

This is inaccurate. Betting inflates the pot.

Because of how drawy the flop is, I think we're up against more draws and one-pair hands below yours to make a turn bet pretty good. I'm not as scared of a K as I would be an A here. If called, I'd probably check through most rivers. As played, river is a pretty easy call imo.

I would imagine AKdd and KQdd etc hands like those to bet the flop. So, with his line, I would imagine seeing 55, 66, 33 etc. if he was playing a TAG game as you said. The turn would not improve hands such as these thus value bet on turn is needed and check down the river or call any small reasonable sized bets.

As played, you played it correctly for pot control, but it seems that 55 got there.
