ok this guy I 4 tabelled him and he was a huge calling station calling my river shoves with mid-bottom pairs (deuces yo)
He was super aggro preflop

over 1.2k hands he was:
46% 3bet
47% call 3 bet
his fold to 4bet 77%
his 4bet 15%

he cbet 63%
he f2cb 52%

he wasnt a huge bluffer... he did jam almost often with draws too, and called my 3bets with small suited cards a good amount of the time

usually when he bets turn and river its because hes got a hand

this is how I adjusted, I started 4betting light with suited connectors and pretty much any ace from a4 to a9, I also 5bet jammed with a10 and other stuff a small amount, I also started to flat 3bets and 4bets with monsters and I cbet a lot of flops, I c-r a good amount on dry boards

is betting the river against a calling station here a good option? or is this too thin given board texture?

Final Pot: $55.00
Hero mucks A 8
BB shows Q 9 (three of a kind, Nines)

in a 4bet pot when he does call, if he does have a trash hand he is not calling my cbet, I was happy hitting my ace in a 4bet pot and decided I'd prefer check check and bet river and get him to call with a midpair

Hero shows A Q (two pair, Queens and Threes)
BTN/SB shows J K (a pair of Threes)
Hero wins $100.50

I did this because he has no 3's in his range, he is rarely doing this with a 10... I have decent equity against midpairs, I have fold equity, and I have 2 backdoor nuts and 2 overs...

hand 1 i would jam turn over his bet since you said he's not a huge bluffer he probably won't barrel 3 streets plus we want the draws to pay.
hand 2 i call.
hand 3 is ok i guess, ofc cbetting against a calling station is not bad either
hand 4 is ok also although cbh on the turn is better if you expect him c/c more than c/f.
hand 5 it depends with what hands is he cbh that flop?
hand 6 is ok

One note: I often find that a player makes a bad play like calling down with 22 in a 3bet pot and I tell myself that “He is horrible and calling down with anything.” In reality, he just made a bad play or is adjusting his playing style. I fail to adjust and then end up getting my ass kicked. Another note, why aren’t you just playing fit or fold post flop in his 3bet pots? He is extremely spewy and will call you off when you hit your hands. Here are some of the ways I would be adjusting to his 3bets:

1) Open tighter Q8+ range
2) Open to 2X
3) 4-bet wider range for value
4) 4-bet bluff some %
5) Call wider for value and trap

Hand 1: I would play as is. You would still be getting value from lesser pairs. If he isn’t laying down 22, he would never lay down QQ or hands you have dominated like KQ, or random Kx hands. Although it is still a pretty thin play considering how wet the board is & would definitely consider checking.

Hand 2: I don’t think 3betting here is a wise decision. I would depolarize my 3betting range against an opponent like this if he doesn’t fold to 3bets. You get too much value from calling with a hand like 76s. Especially since he is really spewy, your implied odds on these type of hands go up and having a larger pot preflop is less likely to decide whether stacks go in. As played, I would have done the same.

Hand 3: I would never be 4betting with a hand like this when you are deep. Your reverse implied odds go through the roof. What do you expect to do if you flop TP? You aren’t comfortable getting your stacks in. Really the only thing you can feel comfortable getting it in with is two pair on a dry board. I would be 4betting suited connectors & premium hands when your 200bb deep. As for your play, I would fire out a continuation bet and then try to get to showdown as cheaply as possible if he calls.

Hand 4: I would have not fired the turn timed down and folded to a second barrel if ˝ pot or larger. At 125bb, you aren’t getting odds to call your gut shot. The board hits his range pretty hard & so you don’t have much showdown value unless you hit your ace.

Hand 5: Same intro as on hand 3. Would fold to 4bet or shove though, you aren’t deep enough to flat with suited connectors. Would have played the hand as-is post flop.

Hand 6: I would have not cbet a board like this. Against this type of player, he knows how dry it is and is likely to c/r. Although he showed up with air, his range heavily weights towards small pocket pairs & Tx hands which have you beat.

Cheers,

Dave
