Pre is fine

River is a fold because even though we won't show up with a flush that often villain has to imagine that we aren't calling with AJ...

Would be interested to hear arguments for why 3betting 33 is better than calling.

- No blockers.
- We're up against a tight range so can effectively setmine.
- Unless you hit your set you're going to hate the flop and if you cbet you'll do so with little equity when called.

From my perspective, 3betting small pairs against UTG openers (and really, against anyone that doesnt have a massive fold to 3bet) sounds horrible.

Agreed, anyone with a decent defending frequency will give us a hard time, we'd have to bluff way too much.

On the other hand, calling small PPs is dirty too, because you get squeezed some %, and you also have to fold on the majority of flops.

I think the best approach with small pps IP is calling, then playing back on boards which are good for your overall range. So I'd rather inflate the pot postflop than preflop.

That approach sounds like it will lead to a lot of spew

Indeed. And which range would you be balancing that with?

I would rather 3bet 72o then 33 BTN v UTG.

Long story short, if you want to 'play back' post-flop, and take hands off regs, do it with hands that at least give you some barreling/back-door equity, 87s, T8s, 64s.

Also, you have to be smart about picking your spots, and your frequency, and what reg your doing it vs and his range, your perceived range, board texture, its not just 'zomg ill raise and rep set $$$'

Imo I'd still rather bluffshove with 55 than 72o as part of my 5-bet bluff range, in theory its fine but in vacuüm it's obviously terrible.

huge difference between 3betting and 5betting.

small PP on the button, implied odds through the roof, fish involved with the hand potentially, why would you 3bet it?
