I have 16 hands with villian and no reads other than he is 81/13. I only have 33 hands at this table. I elected to 3bet for value, and bloat the pot in position.

Otf I am confident that the villian missed so I cbet bluff planning to fold to a raise.

Ott I am continuing to tell a story. I THOUGHT lol there was no way villian called me with A high. I put him on a small/medium pp, 6x or maybe even 78 that would have a hard time calling an all-in.

Merge - $0.04 NL - Holdem - 9 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

MP+1: $4.00
Hero (CO): $3.42
BTN: $2.90
SB: $4.00
BB: $2.90
UTG: $3.36
UTG+1: $4.30
UTG+2: $6.60
MP: $3.70

SB posts SB $0.02, BB posts BB $0.04

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.06) Hero has Q K

fold, fold, UTG+2 raises to $0.10, MP calls $0.10, fold, Hero raises to $0.50, fold, fold, fold, fold, MP calls $0.40

Flop: ($1.16, 2 players) 9 6 9
MP checks, Hero bets $0.87, MP calls $0.87

Turn: ($2.90, 2 players) A
MP checks, Hero bets $2.05 and is all-in, MP calls $2.05

River: ($7.00, 2 players) 7

Hero shows Q K (One Pair, Nines) (Pre 44%, Flop 29%, Turn 0%)
MP shows A J (Two Pair, Aces and Nines) (Pre 56%, Flop 71%, Turn 100%)
MP wins $6.65

So is this a spew ott given the limits (4NL)? Is making this play vs an unknown just a bad idea? Or is my entire line just horrible? Thanks

This is just my two cents, I'm a learning player too, you should probably wait till a more experienced player answer but I wanna give it a try anyway.

I don't think you can 3-bet for value with KQs. Giving the fact that he is in fairly early position and so far have raised with only 13% of hands and probably limp/call all of his junk hands. A call seems fine to me since he made it quite small, might invite a few other players to call and your hand plays good multiway. I'm probably c-betting smaller, no need to make it big on such a dry board, half pot seems fine. Turn is spew IMO, an 81/13 is probably calling with A-high, could be nice to have his fold to c-bet stats though it might not say too much with such a small sample. But still, we don't know much about him and the stats we got suggest that he likes to call so the prudent line is probably to c/f turn, if you gonna 3-bet, which I don't like. If you had made a smaller c-bet there's maybe room for a small barrel OTT, an A hit your perceived range but I mean there's a big chance villain isn't thinking that advanced judging from his stats, against a TAG we have more stats on, it might work to barrel.

Oh, and you should make sure to auto reload.

bets are way too big, you can get away with a 20-30c cb and 1$ turn as played, fish doesnt care
and top up

Fold pre imo definitely not a 3bet, the things that call you potentially dominate you, maybe not in this case but you dont want a bloated pot before youve seen a flop with KQo.

I think the bets are a bit too big but 20/30c and $1 seem way too small, imo 70c ish but on the turn shoving is horribly spewy, its check/fold imo

Dont get in a habit of trying to bluff at these stakes just play straightforward very little bluffing if any and definitely dont assume that these fish are going to follow the story your telling!

less pre, and I only 3bet if both raiser and caller are bad players, if raiser is nit/tag I fold pre.
less on flop (i wouldnt even cbet many flops vs villain, but this one is fine)
check turn, cause he's not folding)

Thanks for the input guys. Dwan summed it up pretty good. Smooth call pf, bet a little smaller otf, maybe bet ott but shutting down seems best.

No real point in repeating what most have said but I'll mention something about your thought process.

81/13 villains at 4nl are too deaf to listen to your 'story' as they only notice what they have and very rarely give any consideration to what you might or are supposed to have.

Bet your value hands and play you equity, fold everything else.

I'm going to start working on this. Thanks

I just call pre. Please never consider folding as someone suggested above, KQs in position with a giant fish in the hand has to be +EV.

The flop is pretty awful for you but he checked it back so a cbet is OK. You could also check it back and c-bet the turn instead, this provides pot control and can be viewed as more credible than a cbet which is pretty routine. That said it's going to be tricky if he donks into you. I think either is reasonable.

After he calls your cbet just shut down because you fired and missed and once they have a hand they like you cannot scare these guys away.

Do not 3bet pre. Even if you took his stats for granted despite the 33 hand sample, someone who is playing 81% of the hands does not mean that he's open/raising them aswell.

In this case he's openning 13%(again no sample but for the sake of the argument lets say there is).

Your KQcc has 45,8% against this range. So do not 3bet pre.

Now do not forget that this is 4NL. There is no story to be told against 80% of the field as there's noone there to listen. DO NOT BLUFF THE FISH. ESPECIALLY at 4NL.

Now, having said that if you want to stab the flop do it for 45-55% of the pot and give up when called.

My 2c
