Well, I've got KQo in the blinds and a Villian has opened UTG. Its folded to me. How can I make money with this hand? What's the BB likely to do? Is he tight, loose, a light 3bettor? What do I know about UTG? Is he tight and opens a narrow range? Is he LAGish and opens a wider range UTG? How does he play postflop? Aggressive? Passive? Ultra-aggressive? Is he paying attention to me and capable of Level 1 thought? Will I stack off with top pair against this guy?
Can I take this down preflop with a 3bet? How will he react to a 3bet? Why would I 3bet? For value, to gain the initiative, or to take it down now? What if he 4bets or shoves? What's my plan then?
How am I going to win this hand if I flat his PFR, considering I'm probably going to miss the flop? Can I steal the pot post-flop?
I call and hit top pair. Am I going to donk the flop, check-call his c-bet, or checkraise? If I checkraise and he calls, what's my plan on the turn? I decide to checkraise (more than a minraise) and he ships it. Am I beating his range here? What has he shown down so far?
As much as I hate folding hands like KQ to a standard raise, I am beginning to think more and more that calling a raise out of position vs unknown even with a hand like this might be a leak, esp if unknown is utg. At least for me. I probably fold pre here, as played I might donk the flop around .10 - .14 partially for value but also to see where I am at, don't know if that is a preferred play or not but it's what I would do. If called, meh, I probabily bet 1/2 pot on turn because of the semi wet board, check call river, folding to any real major action. If board is dry I am less likely to bet the turn, knowing by betting I might be valuetowning myself vs. unknown utg raiser. All that being said, I probabily fold pre.
i think it is possible to play KQ oop profitably 2nl. however we need to understand the strength of our hand.
i dont like min raise on folp. what did u hope to achieve? did u want a call or a fold?
as for calling the shove. you are not ahead almost every time. snap fold.
what did u hope he had? even though you are ahead of a portion of his range f/d's straight draws Kx and K with f/d i feel that he might cold call flop with these type hands rather than shove
check call flop is best play. and try to check down to river.
with no info i agree that it's a fold pre. However, if the guy is one of those 78/54 2nl nuts that I see all the time, then I think calling is fine. I would c/c the flop and turn, and probably the river if no club comes.
