Villain had only been at the table 8 hands. The only previous hand he'd played he'd ended up folding to another 3bet from me. Cant even remember what I had that time but anyway......

PartyGaming - $0.10/$0.25 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 3

MP: $25.00
CO: $35.85
Hero (BTN): $28.15
SB: $27.97
BB: $8.24
UTG: $13.85

SB posts SB $0.10, BB posts BB $0.25

Pre Flop: ($0.35) Hero has A K

UTG calls $0.25, MP raises to $0.75, fold, Hero raises to $2.75, fold, fold, fold, MP calls $2.00

Flop: ($6.10, 2 players) 7 J K
MP checks, Hero bets $4.00, MP calls $4.00

Turn: ($14.10, 2 players) Q
MP checks, Hero checks

River: ($14.10, 2 players) 8
MP bets $13.40, [i] Hero ????

When he check calls flop he has something. Was worried that the turn improved plenty of hands so I checked behind. Then he virtually pots into me on a blank river.

I guess he could have diamonds but this looked like a disciplined fold (not my forte) to me at the time I must admit.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

IMO 3b preflop should have been smaller. As played, fold river. Villain has plenty of two pair combos, sets.

I think preflop its fine. 3x would be the standard, but he doesnt know you and as ou said, you had just 3bet him, so make the best out of it and 3bet bigger for value.

the river is an easy fold, especially given his betsize. people like to call broadways and TT-QQ vs 3bets. I think im betting small on the turn though, there are enough worse hands that he can call with. it would be tough if he raises sonce we have TP+GSD but I think we can be certain that hes rarely bluffing and fold.

There are so many combos of villains preflop calling range that beat you on the river here. AK is actually a weakish hand.

Yeah. In general, I'm not a huge fan of betting small if we intend folding TPTK or decent marginal hands to a subsequent raise. Especially in 3bet pots

Just feels like I'm announcing the strength of my hand & leaving myself open to being bluffed. I end up levelling myself because I don't know if I'm getting raised because I bet weak or because my hand is no good . So I checked the turn

Thanks for the replies guys. I did fold so cant tell you what he had
