When he min-raises me on the flop I expect him to do it with a lot of draws like AJ/AQdd, JQ, Adxd etc. Therefore I decide to 3b since else he's getting a very cheap price to see the next card.
Turn brings a 9 that completes any JQ draw. I don't want to check here to either give him a card for free or just put me in a tough spot if he were to bet like pot.
River is even worse - he tanks for a while then shoves. I don't think I can call this since the only hand we beat is KQ at this point.
So - how should I have played the hand? Just flat flop and ch/c down on any non-diamond?
I think if your gonna 3bet, then 3bet bigger, thats almost a min3bet. You made it super easy for villain to call any draw now, he knows you don't want to let go you hand and offered him a $1.2 bet for your potential stack.
I think your right, the minbet seems more like a draw than a set, so I don't mind the 3bet, just bigger.
I know what you mean though by letting villain draw cheaply. This happened to me a few times recently, OTR they get there, and got to see it at a cheap price, and have been wondering how to counter that. One way I suppose is to just flat his reriase, and not stack off when the flush comes, which is what I did, so it doesn't become that profitable for him as he reriase won him nothing extra.
Or we could flat the flop and donk the turn??? I don't know.
As played OTT, I'd probably check, see what size he bets, but probably call to any bet, becuase I don't think he has a set, they would have gone AI during the flop.
