Length of a solution is a function of the size of the game tree and the accuracy you solve to. My new CPU does solves close to 2x faster than my old i7 I think/feel (?).

I'm currently doing btn vs bb solves with basically 1 flop size and 2 on turn/river with a mandatory check for oop and 100bb SRP. Solving to 0.5% pot accuracy is like 1-2 minutes with my current set up... Would likely take 4-5 with the 3700x CPU, but I'm mostly guessing.

Sort of guessing out my ass though.

Nice, anything under 10 minutes is definitely good.

2700x is fast enough for all intents and purposes
3900x is about 50% faster
3950x is twice the performance

Trust me Rocco, get what I linked if you want value sweet spot for gto+

solvers like gto+ pretty much just use cpu iirc, so if your budget allows it that's where I'd splurge, maybe get something with 8 cores instead of 6. This will be the main place where you notice any difference, poker clients and stuff aren't very taxing
sb vs bb and bu vs bb you will need 32GB. So no its not overkill at all.

Following this thread- I'm a whale when it comes to pc technology. I am running a laptop than can barely fit two tables. Will definitely come back here and upgrade once this crypto run is over. $

Using the GTO+ free trial (so the T96dd fixed flop) a 6GB solution (200bb deep, allowed donking OOP and multiple sizes for IP OTT/OTR) took exactly 6 minutes and 27 seconds.
Also, the PC continued to run smoothly while at it, which is nice.
I think I can be satisfied with that, right? :]

It got up to 78° (172F) as far as Core Temp can tell during the solution; it's pretty hot in here (room temperature's 27°), no worries right?

no worries but if it gets to 80c is starts clocking itself down
so what did you get?

Since we're on the topic, what's the difference between Intel i7 and i9?

more cores and threads
faster single core performance
price...
not worth it compared to Ryzens or Threadrippers or even older workstations with dual xeons for multi threaded bang/$
more of a "gaming" cpu for esports titles

Didn't want to make a new thread, so bumped this. I'm looking to upgrade to a new desktop for general productivity, media consumption and for use with Simple Postflop.

Does anyone on here use Simple Postflop instead of the other solvers mentioned? Just wondering if any requirements or tweaks would be different?

I'm currently using a i5-2500k with 12 gb of ram and the program runs but it's quite slow and can't do SRP against the blinds, so I only do sims for 3-bet and 4-bet pots.

Right now, I'm deciding between 2700x and 3900x but the 3900x is double the price currently. Of course, the faster speed to solve would be nice, but not sure the significant premium would be worth it for my use case. Willing to hear out arguments though for that.

32 gb of ram seems to be enough for post-flop, but is there any benefit to 64 gb for post-flop solves?

Right now, I don't really envision doing Pre-Flop Solves but would a 3900x be future proof enough for running Pre-Flop Solves if I did? How much ram would be needed?

32 gigs recommended for bvb srp and other srp deep stacked with multiple bet sizes
2700x is ok
3900x mby a bit better performance/$ but not needed for postflop
wait for black friday
