Wanted: College students in Ohio to give input into tournament planning Wanted: College students in Ohio to give input into tournament planning

We're looking for a small group of college/university students in Ohio to give feedback and ideas on a poker tournament series for Ohio colleges.

We are looking to pilot this in Fall/Winter of this year and want to hear feedback from students on pricing, structure, and potential interest.

We are not money people, we're poker players who want to get this thing started, so we couldn't pay anything for your time but you could help shape a pretty exciting effort.

We anticipate 6 colleges being selected for the pilot. Tournaments will be held at each of those schools as satellites, and a certain number of those winners will go on to compete in the state-wide finals.

We're exploring if the finals would be in Ohio (cheaper) or in a tropical destination (more fun!!!).

If you can help with feedback on:
  • What buyin makes sense ($50? $70? $30? $100?) and how it would affect number of participants
[*}How many students you think might be interested at your school
  • Whether there are students who would help organize (EG as a fundraiser for charity)
  • What balance makes sense for prize pool vs. "experience". We could do a tropical adventure but prize pool would be less. But one HECK of a story...

After the pilot round we plan to expand and take it national but want to demonstrate it first in a pilot this year.

If you are interested in giving us feedback and ideas, email me at ohiopokernews@gmail.com

As we go along we may have some "thank you" items but no promises :-)

Thanks!

Taking it national will most likely not work out. Ohio laws allow you to hold tournaments for money. A few other states do as well, but not many.

The structure definitely has to be different in different places. Ohio laws are reasonably well suited.

Other states the original tournaments may have to be done differently, with the finals being held somewhere conducive to real money tournaments. In many places it is possible to do charity games, so in most places there can be real money games, just not funds taken from the entries other than what goes to charity.

I have no suggestions - I don't really play live.

But I'm a student at OSU...if you held a tournament in Columbus I would probably play in it. The slower the structure, the better, imo.

We want to get a fair number of players, but also want entry to be enough to give good prize pool for finals.

How is $70?

Or we could do super sattys' and have it be like $120. Not sure how many folks would enter for $120

We's like to see 100 per campus. Obviously lots of promotion.
