Jlborloo, although they finally got online **** def check out Uniqlo. There are a lot of stores you won't see in many places outside of ny, like literally just walk around the fashion district.

I wouldn't come all the way to NYC to ship at polo.

Hello all,

I have been sporadically following this and other fashion threads on the web for a while now. Dressing well seems to be majorly important in the light of self-improvement. Because there are so many different forums and blogs on the Internet about this topic it's easy to lose sight of what the best line is to take here. I feel like dressing well can give me a big edge and thus I'm willing to relatively spend quite an amount of money for somebody my age. But I'd like to do it as well as possible for a beginner.

It's time for a new wardrobe and I'm here to ask you some questions the coming period of time.

My starting position is as following: I'm 20 years old and attending University. I regularly go out to student bars. The percentage of items that are unacceptable in my current wardrobe is about 80%+, so I'd like to start from scratch. I live in a country where well dressed men are a scarcity. It's the beginning of Fall. My budget is $4000.

1) Before I buy anything, what are the must-reads?
2) What are the forums/posters/blogs I should regularly check up on?
3) Is 2p2 the best place to start this topic?

I am extremely thankful for every piece of advice given to me.

enough is enough,

I'd check out the male fashion section on Reddit, there are a lot of good beginners guides there.

I haven't worn NB since like '99 or something, and I don't plan on wearing them again anytime soon, however I do need sneakers/trainers. I have a pair of white Purcells that are decent, but I want more. I'm looking around and i'm prob going to get a pair or two of Adidas Originals.

I also still like the random Asics Onitsuka sneaker as well - Are these in the same category as the NB or anything? I don't want to be looked upon as 45 and married simply because of the sneakers I'm wearing, haha. Truth is I'm going to buy them anyway, but I am still curious what most people think. In a couple months I'm going to Europe for up to 6 months so I want to stock up.

I haven't worn sneakers/trainers outside of a gym or court in years so I'm all over the place. I used to like K-Swiss and Puma too, and I still see Diesel sneakers that I wouldn't hate wearing.

Anyone have advice on where to buy nice henleys? I don't want to spend $30-40 though lol and it seems that any decent looking henley costs that much or more.

got some nice Park Avenue Allen Edmonds in NYC and tons of other stuff. Disko sorry did not get a chance to visit your friend's shop. Thanks all for the advice!

I absolutely hate my Allen Edmonds Park Ave's....I got the width way to thin and they completely kill my feet. So uncomfortable
09-24-2013 , 05:59 PM
I've never actually worn mine. Pretty dumb purchase really, but I'm sure they'll come in handy. I'm probably going to wear them like 3x a year to be honest. Black tie events, weddings and job interviews

anyone recommend a brown shoe? to be worn with jeans + polo/jeans + shirt + v-neck jumper.
09-25-2013 , 08:51 AM
Brown Neumok. Walnut strands. Too easy
09-25-2013 , 09:11 AM
$345 for walnut strands :'(
09-25-2013 , 09:21 AM
You can pick up Neumok's on sale for $200, i think they are a better casual shoe anyways

AE is too expensive in Europe, go with Meermin, Loake or Bexley.

Any other brands (aside from shoe brands) we should avoid in Europe because the price is too high and do you know good alternatives?
09-25-2013 , 12:56 PM
AE is not a brand to avoid, that sounds too negative. It's just not feasible due to customs, etc., because the price is higher than comparable brands.

Alden is high quality, but you'll also got the problem with customs, etc. jacking up the price.

I would always stick to the European brands, unless you get a great deal.

For Alden alternatives look at Crockett & Jones, Carmina, Vass and other brands from Europe in that price segment.

Office is business casual. Will be wearing khaki chinos most of the time with polo or shirt (no tie).

Thoughts on Strands ($275) vs 5th Avenue ($239)? Just don't want the Strands to look too fancy in the casual office.
09-26-2013 , 10:34 AM
Strands are more casual than 5th Avenues. I think both would be fine though (assuming you're not getting them in black).
09-26-2013 , 10:56 AM
Yeah, Cap Toes are infinity times more casual than Strands.
Strands are a solid choice for office wear.

As scrolls said, both are fine, assuming non-black.
