I just skimmed the last couple weeks of this thread and want to say that I think my life has gotten (marginally) worse since I quit playing video games.

I don't think I have played a single minute of video games in the past 16 months (since graduating college), yet I don't seem to be more happy with life. Prior to that I played between 4 and 20 hours a week depending on the weather, time in the semester, who was around for pregames, and who was free on random afternoons while in college. I doubt that I can ever be more happy than I was in college although I am certain I will again reach the same level of happiness (and aside from the alarm clock that can no longer be disregarded at will in the morning, I am very happy as is).

Just thought I would stand up for the side of the issue that henry says has no support.

Lately I've really toned it down and just experimented with the Henry approach. Went to a bar last night and just got a beer and sat by myself for a bit "looking social." I was not dressed super nice, but top 10% in that particular bar. Nobody even looked at me for like the 15 minutes that I was sitting there.

When I have gotten in conversations with girls, it just goes nowhere and I feel so out of rhythm. Like I've talked to a few girls that were being normal and friendly, only for them to then do **** that indicated that they actively disliked me. When that happens it really makes me second guess everything. It feels like everyone around me has got girlfriends or is hooking up with hot girls. Last night at this bar there was this cute girl and this guy that was not good looking at all and he pulled off a buzzer beater and brought her home on the same bus I took and I'm just left wondering how a guy like that can be doing better than me.

I know the immediate reaction will be to pull up all my old posts where I did weird and nonstandard **** and say that's why I'm struggling, but lately I've really reeled it in, been doing the **** that people would approve of itt, and it's not getting me anywhere.

there is nothing standard or "reeling it in" about going to a bar and sitting by yourself.

you dont sit there by yourself "looking social." that means you are sitting there "looking like a creeper." you go act social, talk to people, make friends.

you're obviously doing something wrong. I mean if what works for everyone else doesn't work for you, you probably have some adjusting to do. Or you need to do something else so you're not uncomfortable. Sitting by yourself drinking isn't going to do much.

If you live in Chicago I can point you toward some places to go.

maybe you are just unattractive and need to lower your standards. maybe you need new friends. maybe you should stop worrying about girls so much. something isnt right, obviously.
