Making a new curve for every damn place you go would only make sense if you're GCG and viewing every single errand as a place where you're actively looking to try to get laid ASAP.
My cousins saw Elisha Cuthbert at Walmart about 3 weeks ago.

I really like this analogy

tbe, I have a huge crush on Elisha.... pics or not true tho, she obv doesn't shop at walmart.

Did lunch with a friend just now and led right off by asking him if he'd received an offer from his firm that he summered at. I though he was a lock since things sounded like they were going really well. He says, "Yeah, ummm...no, I didn't."

It's difficult to pull yourself out of that hole in a conversation. I felt like I had just wrongly accused a woman of being pregnant. For those not acquainted with the law school job trajectory, getting no-offered by your 2L summer firm is a real scarlet letter that can greatly hinder your job search going forward; it will look to many, right or wrong, like he was a ****up. Naturally I jumped right into some bull**** spin about how maybe that was better because blah blah blah.

Indeed. I meant well. I was so confident that it was just going to be, "So, did you get an offer?" "Yes." "Awesome, congratulations."

I feel like a better way to phrase the question might be something along the lines of "so where are you working this fall?"

hindsight 20/20 though and all that

was this biglaw? if so, y are u on getting lunch with a misfit like that?
08-22-2011 , 02:06 PM
He had just been talking a couple of weeks ago about how he was looking forward to hearing about his offer status soon. It was natural that I directly follow up to find out how that went down.
08-22-2011 , 02:07 PM
Disko, I don't even know WTF you just said.
08-22-2011 , 02:08 PM
His career is done.

Given how small the law community is here you'd know before he did which makes avoiding those situations easy. Onlt time I asked someone about match was when I knew they didn't get an offer and I was looking to make them feel bad.

then ur ******ed lol

neone who gets no offered from biglaw is a complete social misfit. not shocking youd be friends with someone like this lol (exception: class of 2010)
08-22-2011 , 02:13 PM
Oh. No, he's not a misfit; pretty sure this guy doesn't have an enemy in the world and he's easy as can be for anyone to get along with. Again that's why I'm very surprised that he got the result he did. He did get into this position not by great grades but by being Asian and tapping in and networking well at diversity fair stuff, so maybe he just performed really badly. Really don't think it's about a personality clash.
08-22-2011 , 02:16 PM
There has to be some colossal ****-up that you don't know about to this point. Maybe he's habitually late for work or something. Anything like that that can **** up a reputation despite being "good at" what he's doing.

br0han

also guys getting no-offered in 2011 is not a huge surprise. it happens. and it's not career ending. the economy is still **** and the DOW is down over 500-1k at times.

i don't think u realize just how incompetent one's SA work product needs to be in order to get no-offered in biglaw. i'm pretty comfortable saying that a random person with a 100+ IQ and no law experience could adequately perform any and all summer associate assignments sufficiently to get an offer.

this is almost certainly a case of ur friend being a complete aspie misfit.

this is the only possible explanation but from what i've heard offer rates have been pretty normal this year (98%++).

Well anyway, no again.

And I don't think the guy who hasn't made a new friend since age 10 has the greatest perspective on how to assess someone as a total social misfit.

He's not stupid, but he's not the brightest amongst my friends. He always seemed to take a really professional approach to his job so I have a hard time seeing it be about professionalism.
