Legit reasons for skipping mandatory classes? Legit reasons for skipping mandatory classes?

02-02-2009 , 08:18 PM
So I have a class on Thursday that only meets once a week and attendance is mandatory unless you have a valid excuse or w/e. And since I'm driving two hours on Thursday to play in a poker tournament I obviously won't be in class lol. 98% of classes are no problem skipping as any student knows but this one I need a legit excuse. Also, it can't be that I was really sick that day or w/e because another student tried this and he said a doctor's note is required. Doesn't help that the teacher is a douche and I got a 66% on my first paper last week so he probably doesn't like me already (only a 20 person class). Anyone used any good excuses before that worked?

Maybe go see a doctor early in the morning if possible, get a doctor's note just saying that you had an appointment there on whatever date (most places will just have some receptionist writing the letter and you can pretty much dictate what you want it to say within reason..tell them you want it to say no more than the fact that you were seen that day), then leave right after that and obviously embellish the details when you give the doctor's note to the prof.

Get a doctors note, they are redic easy to get from any doctor. Doubly so for just missing a class.

I've never actually gotten one but I have been in school for 6 years now and have NEVER heard of someone not being able to get a doctor's note.

Ive use the words "family matter", like a million times to professors.

So silly that legal adults have classes with mandatory attendance. Not high school anymore mr/ms Professor. I always believed that if I am of legal age to be drafted into the military then I should be able to miss a class if I feel like it.

Send the prof an email now telling him/her than Aunt XXX or Uncle YYY passed away from ZZZZZ. Sending the email a few days before makes it seem more legit, as funerals and whatnot are rarely held the day after someone croaks.

wtf is a mandatory class, you mean an exam?
02-03-2009 , 03:40 AM
a class that makes attendance mandatory ldo

As stupid as mandatory class may be, when teachers make it 10-20% of the final grade, I always lol when people don't go to class w/o an excuse, because that 20% should be the easiest A that one would ever get while at college.

Seriously, is it so hard to attend a class that you have paid for? And when you get a job, will you still take the position that you don't need to attend?

Seriously. Just go to class. Skip the tournament, you're not going to cash anyway (well most times ).

Its all about priorities. You want the tourny, lose the grades. But stop whining about how you deserve both. Your not special like your mama told you.

man the **** up and make a decision, either go to the tournament or go to class. Cant have everything both ways. Welcome to life.

If he's requiring a doctor's note if ur sick, he's smart enough to know that a "family emergency" means you've got something else you'd rather be doing. Seriously, we're not the first ones to come up with that excuse.

tell him you have to pick someone up at the airport. this has worked for me before.

This is a good one actually, unless it is a night class. He may ask why you scheduled an interview at that time though or ask for some kind of proof.

Not everyone has to go to class to get good grades.
