Hey guys,

Was wondering if people here had experience trying to go for SN playing NL25/50 6-max cash while having some sort of life and also keeping on track(ish) of studies at a decent University. If so, how many hands were you guys doing and what sort of schedules did you implement?

Isn't grinding SN really really time consuming? Especially at lower stakes? And you want to have a social life and maintain good grades at a decent school? Lol? And lol? Lol.

Edit: I was thinking of SNE..SN is still a sizeable task I am guessing though.

Edit: it just occurred to me that your prob talking about supernova at .25/.50. In which case, I would still suggest about the same thing with even more of a emphasis on school and fun. I attempted supernova grinding SNGs one year. It was a pretty big mistake in retrospect.

SN should be lol easy at 25/50. I'm guessing you mean SNE though. Unless you're one of those sickos that only needs 4 hours of sleep to function perfectly, this is probably a bad idea. Focus on school and having some fun. Grind in your spare time. Assuming you're profitable at 25/50 you should be able to make plenty of money just doing that. Attempting SNE while stressing about college and the social life that comes with it is going to derail you at you some point. It's much better to focus on becoming a better player than to focus on forcing yourself to put in huge volume imo.

Just to reiterate, going for SN rather than SNE, does that make it a lot more doable?

[?] $0.25/$0.50 USD

Yeah the play will be ranging from $0.1/0.25 to $0.25/0.5, maybe moving up if I'm doing well

If you are majoring in Oceanography or Philosophy go for it.

No matter what, that low of stakes will be time consuming and you will severely cut out time in your social life.

I can say from experience that this is a mistake. School is way more important than grinding micros unless you have some BS major, in which case you probably shouldn't even be going to college. Besides that, you won't be able to have much of a social life which will make you unhappy and lead to you playing worse poker. You will probably be much more profitable if you give up thinking about grinding SN, and just focus on improving you win rate and moving up. Always make sure that poker isn't too big a part of your life while in school.

ehm, well, he will have to work regardless, so I dont think that impact on social life is that huge

If you're a winning player with a br, just grind 25 hours a week.

less volume = bigger winrate

You wont have to win alot to be pretty baller compared to other students.

My friend did it at .05/10 deep 6 max, some 25/50nl fr, easily doable if u put some epic sessions in during the holidays
12-04-2011 , 02:04 PM
Why don't you try getting good at poker and moving up and/or playing tournaments instead of severely limited your earning potential?
12-04-2011 , 03:36 PM
Less hours, less tables, forget SN and make $/move up by improving. Uni isn't about grinding low stakes it's about getting a good degree and having a great time meeting people. Also, play on a different site with a good rakeback deal if you're playing 25nl or 50nl, this will improve your hourly.

lol poker and school don't mix imo. and adding SN into the mix..... lol you better skip class and be prepared to get a garbage gpa imo.

was having very similar thoughts myself these past few weeks. Im usually goldstar on stars and thought mabye if i go for it i could make SN. Next year starting July im on a placement for a year and i was thinking grinding and placementing could be a breeze, as less study time so when im out of work i can just play and not have to worry about deadlines. But after a shocking few weeks of online poker i dont think i can cope with loseing and in my case not being a profitable enough player.

Its a tough choice for me. Have a goal on stars like SN and not worry as much about profit. im not saying dont be a winning player but instead of thinking oo i made $1000 this month and lost the next if your good enough and going for SN hopefully the progits will speak for themselves and slowly the stars rakeback will help you enough. I try grinding other sites and i get so frustrated and always end up back on stars!

I say go for it man but after 2 months if its a dive dont be afraid to give it up and wait till studies are done with and then if your good enough youll be SNE in no time!

I got SNE this year whilst doing a maths degree, so SN if definitely possible. I didn't really play during exam periods but then I put in some huge sessions during the summer.

Only you will know if you can do it. Have a go at trying to hit SN pace for a couple of weeks and then ask yourself if you can keep that up for the whole year. gl!

It's not even profitable to do it below .25/.50. I did it a few years ago when I first started college, it's not worth the time and effort to sit there and 24 table that crap. Even if you break even, you're only looking at $6k. Work on 8-tabling something you can get good at and move up stakes where you can make more than that.
