Welcome to the real world, where most conference proceedings papers are 4-5 pages and where most (journal articles take up a much smaller percentage of the total output) of your scientific findings will be published.

This trick really isn't that great. If you look closely, the reason enlarging periods makes your paper longer is because it increases the size of lines (like, instead of having 24 lines of text per page, you will have 22 lines of text per page.) It provides the same results as increasing the space in between your lines (ie instead of double spacing you papers, you make it 2.1 space).

Point is, if your teacher is looking for cheaters, you will still get caught.
I think I'm the one that originally wrote that cause I remember posting something like that when this thread first surfaced.

And yeah, it's still true. I'm not a nit, just stating the obvious: it jacks up the line spacing, which has nothing to do with making periods bigger.

Yeah, everyone would expect this.

But he seems so surprised when hes like "yeah, it added 1 page to this 10 page paper. But for this 20 page paper, it added TWO FULL PAGES (omg)"

yeah, but i'm talking about papers written in the style of undergrads, not real articles. everyone i know who published anything based on the research they did in school submitted papers for review at most 1/3 the length of what they turned in to profs the first time around.
