Applying to Uni Advice Needed (UK) Applying to Uni Advice Needed (UK)

Hi guys, im 19 years old been grinding low-med stakes sngs for moniez since leaving school last summer.

Im applying for Uni starting in Septemer and im looking for advice on how to aproach the whole poker thing on my application, im asked to write a personal statement and include why i want to Study my chosen course and what career path i plan on following. Basically i only want to get a degree for something to fall back on and i have no real career plans apart from playing poker for as long as i can earn enough to pay the bills.

How honest should i be on my aplication or should i just go ahead and pretend like a degree and a career is the most important thing in the world to me?

ps, the courses i plan on applying for are Buisness and Managment and my high school grades are kind of on the cut off which is why i want to nail the application.

Don't mention it on your statement - not a good enough chance of them understanding it. Just say you have been working to save money and travelling in your gap year.

btw, just having uni as a backup plan is stupid imo. Having poker as a long term career option is a really, really dumb idea imo, especially with the way the games seem to be going. Even if the games were still good, do you really want to be playing poker with your life 20 years from now? I can think of nothing more depressing. Concentrate on getting a good degree and play poker in your spare time for some extra disposable income.

thanks for the advice, i dont consider poker as a long term career and i do have other job options if/when poker drys up. im just basically focusing on poker 100% right now and figured as i have a ton of free time i might aswell do something usful with it and that is my reason for applying for uni.

poker = degeneracy + exploitation in the eyes of admissions people imo. Leave it out. There are plenty of very standard templates you can base your personal statement on without having to risk it.

Leave it off your personal statement for sure. The university doesn't have to know anything you playing poker really, it definitely won't help your application.

Concentrating on SNGs is just lol. I play a ton of SNGs at the moment, and the games are tough. Decide on a good major, get a good degree, and move on from there. Poker won't go away, don't worry.
