Hey KeepEvolving, what Quantph wrote is right on. Golden is a ~30 minute drive down the canyon, there are some hotel options there and Idaho Springs is ~20 minutes away, just off I-70, with a few hotel options and a much easier drive into Blackhawk.

Another option is Nederland, CO. It's biggest attraction is it has recreational 420 shop and good Indian/Nepalese place to eat. It's a funky hippie town. There is a Best Western. It's 20 miles on a beautiful mountain highway. Drive is 30 minutes as you pass through a couple of towns and should definitely slow down going through Rollinsville & Gilpin as they like giving out tickets for speeding.

I would suggest The Reserve Casino to stay at. Its a mile from the lodge up the hill in Central City.Its a nice spot I stayed there last year

It was 9 max bets on the turn. Craziest hand I've been involved in a 2-5 game. If I recall correctly, 4 of us limpers to the flop. No paint, and I flop flush and inside straight draws. I bet like 15, two callers. I make the straight on the turn, I bet like 40, one fold, then get raised to 100 total. So I make it 200, he max raises and so on...I must have checked my cards a hundred times to make sure I had the nut straight. Also helped that I had the flush re-draw. Kinda goofy that we couldn't just go all in, but that's CO rules. I thought for sure we were chopping.

So while it's a $100 max bet, the pots can still get big. And this was at the Ameristar. The cash games at the Lodge are dead...

Looking for a hotel in blackhawk or central city that isn't a complete **** hole but is $79/ night or cheaper. I will be there the entire time.

Might be a little cold depending on what you're used to, but should get lots of sun. And no snow in the forecast.

However, some advice for all you guys driving in from out of town: do NOT under any circumstances speed around Blackhawk or Central City. There are buku amounts of police just waiting to pull you over, as they assume everybody leaving the casino is drunk, high, or both. This past Wed I'm leaving the Ameristar around 11pm. I'm driving exactly the speed limit, and this idiot proceeds to pass me on the left on this curvy mountain road, straddles the double yellow, and of course the car just in front of me is a cop and lights him up. About a mile further down 119, there are two more cars pulled over, and both drivers were getting field sobriety tests. And finally before I even get to I70, there are two more police cars hiding out on the side of the road with radars out - and this is on a WEDNESDAY...you all have been warned

I'm not even sure this is possible. I tried Googling "DIA to Black Hawk" but the link to the casino shuttle is busted. If you are really determined, you might be able to take RTD to somewhere you could get a casino shuttle. I suppose you could even take a taxi but it'd be expensive.

Bottom line: rent a car.

How direct are you looking for? You can get a bus from DIA to downtown and then a bus from 15th and Glenarm to BH. It'll be about $40, 2-3 hour commute, and put you on instant tilt.
