Overall this event was a complete success, the guarantee was smashed @ 250K, cash games were strong throughout the series, staff was on point, venue was great. Looking forward to the next one for sure.
Just because they follow what they'd posted, doesn't mean original formula was correct. They really do need to consult someone like savage to fix it.

You must be joking right? Side by side comparison of PNIA to WPT with 350 runners. Fairly similar distribution.

PNIA WPT
1 28% 29%
2 16.5% 19%
3 11% 11.5%
4 7.5% 10%
5 5.7% 5.5%
6 4.4% 4.5%
7 3.4% 3.5%
8 2.5% 2.5%
9 1.8% 2%
10 1.4% 2%

9th and 10th way off. Thanks for clarifying ehst I stated earlier. Redo the payouts with wpt formula.

That wpt doesn't look savage approved as his 9th would be 3pct.

If they used the WPTR formula, 9th would have been $5000 instead of $4500. That doesn't seem like such a calamity.

Poker Night in America is NOT a WPT event?

Our WPT Commerce Regional event that is going on now is paying

1st $180,680
9th $18,090

Those numbers make sense.

Everything I heard about the PNIA event was positive and that they treated the players great.

ICWUDT

Our Commerce Regional payout with 350 would be 21% and 9th would be 2.1%. We have 3 payouts that our partners can choose an A/B/C, I use B for Commerce. Payout A would pay 36 and payout B would pay 45.

That's not a savage run wpt you selected. Industry std is 9th 10pct of 1st.

Before we get too derailed talking about payout structures, I want to thank The Peppermill Reno for putting on a great series and investing in Poker.
  • Rooms were nice, reasonably priced and they were extremely close to the tourney and poker room
  • They used an extremely comfortable, quiet and smoke free ball room that was littered with tv's
  • In addition to cocktail servers they had a great free self serve refreshment bar that was always stocked and clean
  • The rake was low throughout the week and featured juice free reentries on the Main
  • The structures were amazing and played deep for the entire series
  • We played 9 handed pretty much all week
  • They used a new chip set that was easily distinguishable
  • Good dealers, friendly/helpful staff
  • And a passionate Poker Room Manager/TD (Mike Nelson) that truly wants to grow the game and give the players what they want.

Here's a picture of only half of the space they used

Were there any hiccups? Of course there was, but to discuss them would be foolish as they were few and far between, handled professionally and appropriately.

Now back to the payouts…… I also think that they need to tweak them a bit for the next one. In general, super top heavy payouts (which this was) is bad for the long term poker economy. I think the trend of flatter payouts is good for the game as long as they don't get too flat.

The Peppermill Reno is a nice casino, has great food options and has more then enough room to grow into a premier large field stop in the near future.

As the saying goes, if you build it, they will come!

Had a great time at the event, wish I had a better run.

Lost QQ vs AdQd when the board flopped the flush
and JJ vs A2s for a runner runner straight!

The only issues I had was our table started 5 handed for 1.5 hours(levels), when most other tables were full, empty seats stacks initially were still in the tray, then they were moved out onto the felt and blinded off, for 20 minutes, then put back in the tray? Then guy shows up to fill his seat and has full 20k?
Another girl shows up for her seat and has 18. something.
Just a fyi for Mike and staff.

Can't wait for the next event, I have played all over Reno and Peppermill is where I choose to play, its a great casino with a smoke free environment. Best high hand payouts too.

They really need to start spreading a 2/3nl, all they have is 1/2 and 3/5 sometimes 5/10. Spoke with Mike about this but seems to be low priority.
the 1 table of 3/5 they have is usually full all weekend with the same people.

Has this tournament been canceled?
www.pokerinreno.com

The website shows peppermill deepstack event starting November 27th and my iphone poker near me app just alerted me that this tournament was also starting tomorrow.

Seems like off timing since we just finished a big series with PNIA.

But thought I would ask around.
Also nothing on the peppermill website.

Thanks all.

Quick note on the payouts; prior to the event management discussed a 200K guarantee with a 100K guaranteed 1st place, the thought was that if you guaranteed 100K for 1st more pros would come out, I did not agree with this sentiment and advocated that management instead use a top heavy payout structure similar to the WPT in lieu of a 100K 1st place guarantee, with a 200K prize pool it would be close to 70K for 1st so it would be close to 100K anyway. I think the result was a good compromise, I would have hated to see 1st place get 100K and 2nd get like 28K based off a WSOP style distribution with 100K already taken out. These guarantee 1st place prize pools tend to work better in larger markets (Bay Area) because they get enough entrants to naturally allocate 100K+ to 1st, the 1st PNIA event would not have worked out that way though and payouts would have been really skewed.

I know, as was evident in the formation of this series, that Mike and everyone else at Peppermill is super open to suggestions though, and they will definitely look at the payout structures and tweak them if it is a concern to a lot of people.
