Great Show of appreciation

Well deserved

That guy was indeed awesome. Last person at the WSOP who should be shamed.

I felt bad later I didn't tip him. I was already whizzing when I first heard him so I didn't know what was going on at first. After I finished I wanted out of there asap, so a tip didn't occur to me until much later.

What's the reason wsop is so popular this year?

Pent up demand from the pandemic and with inflation the way it is, $10,000 just isn’t as much as it used to be. Also, with easier access to solvers now, a lot more people fancy themselves as experts and want to take a crack at it.

I played one bullet in the $400 buy-in Colossus event, and despite all cluster****s and inconveniences, had a great experience. I finished 754th out of 15,800+ entries for a $1160 payout. My first ever Day 2 and first WSOP cash (I cashed in a WSOP circuit before, and in dailies, but never in a summer bracelet event).

Friday day 1a was a marathon, 16.5 hrs ending at 2:30 am. I was so tired for the last few hours, I shut down and played only super premium hands. Fortunately I had built up a decent stack to enable me to practically fold into the money and onto day 2. Had to laugh thinking that a 16.5 hour day 1 could easily be followed up by a 5 minute day 2, as I had 15 big blinds and would have to shove asap. On my very first hand, I got dealt JJ in middle position, and went all-in over the top of a shorter stacked all-in player. I could have barfed! Won the hand, and a few more, mostly the blinds and antes, lasting 4+ hours more before losing a coin flip w 77 vs. AQ.

After waiting in 3 lines to get paid, I took an uber to Gorilla Sushi for all I could eat, stuffed myself silly, and had to spend the next 16 hours recovering from a food coma in my hotel room. The experience drained me physically, mentally and emotionally, and was worth every effort and expense. I stayed overall for 9 nights, with the usual Vegas ups and downs. A great trip overall. I plan to play in several WSOP tourneys next summer, and try to stay for 14-15 days.

*The results and prize pool info on wsop.com for the Colossus is not correct. Just too much of everything too fast to get it all right, I suppose So much data, so much humanity, a logistical colossus for sure. Maybe you had too much too fast...

It's all laughs and fun regarding the dealer situation until this happens. Most chuckle at the 'WSOP notoriously has brand spanking new dealers' thing, "Can you believe my dealer miscalculated my pot-sized bet?" etc., but this is a great example of why it can be a major detriment to the WSOP.

Cash grinder here sitting in the elevated Horseshoe bar in between both WSOP ballrooms. Nothing sadder than watching slot machine seats fill up with guys with hoodies full of patches during the WSOP Main. GG, kings. You're all gonna win next year for sure.

Brutal indeed… however, was one of the other 4s missing, or were there 53 cards in the deck? If the former, the fouled deck didn’t really change the results of the hand, so the ruling was probably fair. However if there was an extra 4, that seems like a really terrible ruling.

I have seen a fouled deck like this with a pretty experienced dealer. They don’t always pay close enough attention when setting and washing a new deck. It’s unfortunate, but of all the mistakes made from inexperience, I’m not sure this one is a good example.

Ouch! I think that was a bad ruling. All bets should be returned in misdeal hand.

It wasn’t a misdeal, it was a fouled deck. But all bets should have been returned.

I've seen everyone say that, and I wonder is it just because it clearly impacted the hand (assuming extra fours in the deck)? Imagine getting 100 BB each in preflop with AA vs KK, holding, and the river is the 2c and someone says "hey I folded 2c" and count down the deck and instead of a 2s there are two 2c, feels insanely unfair to void out that hand, when that issue had zero impact on probability of being dealt those hands or on the win equities of each (Let's assume red aces vs red kings ha).

It feels like if the above happened and hand voided, people would be completely outraged, especially if it was, say, DNegs or Hellmuth who had the KK and got the mulligan.

Yeah and even relative novices seem to know the rule

Yeah. If there were 52 cards in the deck, then it would seem the extra diamond played no role in this hand and the outcome was not altered. Then I think the ruling was fair. But if there were 5 4’s in this deck, the ruling was absolutely not fair since the fouled deck played a significant role in the outcome.

Quick trip report: I just got home from playing my first Main Event. I played Flight A on Monday, returned home for the next two nights in order to spend the 4th of July with my family and friends, then returned for Day 2 on Friday. Then Day 3, and Day 4, where I finally busted just after the first pay jump. It was my first WSOP cash, having fallen short 6 times in previous events. I loved every minute of the experience. I played with some well known pros and celebrities like Shaun Deeb, Juha Hellpi, Alan Kessler, Nadya Magnus, and Alexandra Botez. I was there for a memorable hand where Juha inadvertently slow-rolled Deeb in a hilarious moment where he damn near mucked the winner. I walked by Idan the One sitting in tears on the first break (poor bastard) and then on Day 4 ended up seated next to the Ruben Correia, the man who busted him out by having aces twice to beat his kings. I witnessed some incredible hands like Shawn Beaupre getting an all-in called to double up through Magnus after the river gave her the nut flush and him quad queens. I had a crazy to start to Day 2 where I had pocket aces four times in the first level, so of course they were cracked twice by AK, first with a flush beating my set then with a Q on the river to spike Broadway for an all-in short stack. There's nothing to temper the joy of flopping a set of aces than seeing a monotone board...which ends up being a 5-card monotone board and your aces aren't even playing, and you're forced to fold to a river bet because how could he have called flop, called turn, and bet river and not have the king of hearts? And even if he's bluffing, you'd only be chopping. Can't bust out making a hero call for half the pot, even if you know that this makes it a perfect bluffing spot. I made a good read and called an all-in with my life on the line late on day 2 after having just been moved to a table and having only a few hands of information on the player, the most difficult situation I was in the entire tournament. I was then fortunate to win a coin flip hand in the last level of day 3 as we approached the bubble that allowed me to safely make the money when we resumed on Monday. The bubble of the Main Event was quite the spectacle. One of the 3 who busted on the bubble was lucky enough to not only get his $10K share of the $30K they split up, but also win the seat to next year's Main, so he actually came out ahead of the next 500 of us who busted! My run came to an end not long after as I shoved my last 12 bigs with TT only to be called by AQ, and this time the flip didn't go my way.

It was definitely the highlight of my time playing poker. I've been playing for 15 years, but just started getting serious about improving my game in the last couple years, and it was great to see that effort pay off. The only negative is that in addition to bringing home my winnings, I discovered this morning that I also brought home Covid. Not terribly surprising I guess, and I really don't feel too sick, but it's still a bummer.

I can confidently say that won't be my last Main Event. I really loved the combination of the atmosphere, the deep stacks, long levels, the incredible variety of players, the big moments, and of course the dream of making a deep run to make a big score. Just an awesome experience.

Here are my thoughts on the WSOP this year
1. Event structures and selection of events - Very good - It seems that with other casinos offering tournaments as well, you really do have a lot of choice. I played Events at Venetian and Wynn as well as WSOP events.
2. Capacity - Still lacking - It seems that there just isn't enough capacity for events on busy days. I registered ahead of time when I could. I didn't have issues with most of the popular events. One player managed to sit at my table for the mini-main event at 3pm and said that he had been waiting since 9am. The Colossus lines were nuts. I pre-registered but then when I wanted to play another bullet after busting around level 8, I had to wait almost an hour. I also had to wait an hour to play the Mystery Bounty at the Wynn. I was going to take another shot at playing the Lucky 777s WSOP event, but after seeing the line, I went to play somewhere else. The crazy lines, just are such a deterrent. It goes to show that there is massive demand to play poker around the $1K - $2K price point. I think if there weren't such lines, the mini-main event could have easily been 25% bigger (same with Colossus)
3. Food Options - These are sucky at Paris and HorseShoe. Stuff is way overpriced and not particularly good. I ate at Martha Stewart's restaurant and I thought for the price, that it wasn't worth it. I ate pretty well at the Venetian. Grand Lux Cafe is a solid choice.

Overall, it seems that it's still a bit of growing pains with the WSOP's new venue. I did really enjoy myself and the atmosphere. I can't wait to do it again next year.
