Toying with the idea of staying at a chain I like in the Lombard/Oak Brook area. Mapquest says my drive between here and the Shoe would be 51 minutes for 36 miles (using IL-110 and Interstate I-90). Does this really sound feasible (considering most of my driving would be none rush hour), or is this way off?
Also considering staying in Indiana. Sort of have it narrowed down to a couple hotels, one in Merrillville, and one in Portage. Both are nearly identical distances from the Shoe according to maquest (35ish minutes). Which town do you think would be nicer for a visitor to stay in? Or should I not stay in Indiana at all and focus on southeast Chicago?
I'm considering the Doubletree in Alsip as well, but one friend told me that's not the greatest area either, so I dunno...I personally figured it would be ok, but only been to Midway area once 10 years ago and don't really remember anything.
From what I've read here and other places, I really don't want to stay too much closer to the casino, as the areas might be a bit shady. Hearsay I know, but will have a car so no harm driving a few more minutes if my stay is substantially more comfortable. Thanks in advance.
Completely disagree, any hotel in Indiana is skeezy. And if its half way decent, you realize you are in Indiana as soon as you step out the door. Oakbrook has a nice mall, some good restaurants and very nice affordable hotels.
Traffic for noon events wont be an issue. Give yourself 1.5 hours, take 88 to 290 to 90/94 towards Indiana and then Skyway. You will make it just fine, I live in a suburb west of Oakbrook and make it in less than one hour at that time.
Finally, ALWAYS preregister, so you never have to wait in line and even if you get stuck in traffic, you will be fine because of the good structure of these tourneys.
My two cents, if you want something a lot nice for the same price as a crappy indinana motel, do it.
