Can't see the details on most bottles because of the blurry picture. Can you type out a list? Which Springbank and Talisker are those? I have the Laphy 10 CS closed too, tried it a while ago and liked it so much that I got a bottle but never got around to opening it.

i found some more pictures in my phone.
it´s only part of my unopened once but that should do the trick.

My vote would be for the Bunnahabhain 18, Springbank 10 100 proof, or the Glendronach 18.

Hahaha, my mom always told me I have expensive tastes

On that note, I may be close to buying a Port Ellen 7th Edition. I'll report back if I do.

was gonna suggest these exact 3 + the glendronach 12......the glendronach 18 is my current favorite open bottle of whiskey now that all my couvreur special vatting is gone.

i still have too many bottles open so i thought i´ll try a bottle i haven´t tried for quite a while.

nose:rum raisins,cinnamon,fudge,honey,some plums
taste:gooseberry,sour cherry,plums,dark chocolate,nutmeg
aftertaste:semilong, first sour berrys but then espresso hits

not bad,but not to homogenous, its a battle between sour and bitter and some sweets.
would give it 83/100

now i know why i havent had it for a while

Tried a little experiment that I saw Ralfy do in one of his reviews: tasting side by side a freshly poured glass and one which I added water to ~30 minutes earlier and had let it rest. My choice of whisky was Glengoyne 21.

Neat:
Nose: sherry and oak. Sweet, like raw sugar but not overpowering. Milk chocolate. The nose is subtle at this strength, no issues getting in there. Very pleasant, but if anything a little monotonic.

Taste: Very mild entrance, a little sweet, no spices, no alcohol burn. More sweetness develops, along with a silky texture.

Finish:Long and sherried, with an oaky after taste

With water:
Nose: The oak went away but the sherry remains. The raw cane sugar smell is a little tamed. More crisp, but less intense.

Taste: Maybe too watered down now, but interestingly some spicy flavors develop.

Finish: A bit bitter and not as long. Flavors linger, oak, some bitterness, some sherry.

Overall very good, although I think I added a bit too much water to the glass. Seems rather delicate. Actually, I would call this one a "delicate sherry bomb".

Mann, tbh:

I like to think that this guy isn't trying to fence it, he's just a scotch lover who really wanted a bottle of 50yo balvenie to sip at home.

Very nice!

Financial fund or sipping fund?

One of my scotch connoisseur buddies, age 54, was just advised by his doctor that he has to stop drinking due to liver concerns. Not sure which maladay is more likely to kill him though: his liver or not drinking scotch. I'd hate to see you hold back on tasting some of your collection and then find out sometime in the future that you could only taste but not swallow!

For Christmas, same buddy gave me this bottle from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society:

Looking forward to opening this 60.7% beast and will report back when I have done so.

Also for Christmas I received the following bottle from my staff — I like to think that they gave it to me because they like me, on the other hand if they gave it simply as a job security measure than that works for me just as well — and demonstrates how smart they are:

The presentation of the squat, black bottle is very impressive, not to mention intimidating, as is the price tag! Anyone have any experience with this black-bottled-beauty?

99,

I think I reviewed black art earlier ITT. I really love it. Very unique taste, sort of tart pruney/sherry flavor to it. Has been a while since I had it, I'll have some tonight and report back. Shares some similarity w glenmorangie Artein if you've had that. $450!? Pretty sure I bought mine for something like $170 a couple years ago, sigh.

Was your friends liver condition due to drinking? A friend of mine in his 40s told his doctor how much he drinks (heavy social drinker) and asked about liver concerns, and doctor said not to worry about it and that you have to drink really crazy amounts before having to worry about liver damage.
