I feel this way about most interviews with people I deem interesting or who I think could have a lot of beneficial info for audiences. One that stood out for me was when Ike went on Rogan, I found it so painful

The Dawn Wall https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7286916/

Really good documentary about two free solo climbers who take on the 3000ft Dawn Wall in Yosemite, a climb that was said to be impossible. The doc is not so much about the dangers of the climb but more about the sheer determination of the two climbers, one of whom had lost an index finger making climbing incredibly more difficult, the other had never done a wall climb before and had only done 30-40ft boulder climbs.
Definitely worth watching.

The plot features a coke syndicate, a motorcycle riding ninja crime organization, and a group of college students who are orphans, martial arts experts, and play in a martial arts themed rock band.

The special effects in the action scenes were actually really impressive I thought, some cool and brutal looking martial arts moves and a bunch of limb severing, impaling, and decapitation in sword fights.

One of the hdtgm hosts said it was his favorite movie they’ve ever done on the show. Highly recommend watching while high and then listening to the podcast afterwards
I had never even heard of this movie until this post. I just got tickets to an April screening that will be attended by Grandmaster Y.K. Kim and Joseph Diamand. Maybe they are touring with it.

+1 to this- for those who enjoyed Free Solo, check out the Dawn Wall. Meru is also a good film as well (Meru is made by Jimmy Chin, same guy who did Dawn Wall).

Adam Ondra actually climbed the Dawn Wall on his first go (Ondra is the best rock climber in the world). Here's a cool film where he just completed a groundbreaking climb in terms of sheer difficulty:

I don't know if this has been posted before in this thread, but I just found a four-month-old NYT online mini-documentary (10 min) on the making of Free Solo. I think that anyone who enjoyed Free Solo (and who didn't?) will also enjoy watching this.

Crouching Tiger launched a fascination with China for me. Very unlikely I would have moved to Asia if i hadn't seen it.

not to be a nit but they werent free soloing they were climbing with ropes and there were two of them....

also neither of them are known as free solo climbers as you mentioned kevin was pretty much only a boulder climber before this expedition.

however it was an awesome doc and its basically impossible to free solo the dawn wall.

Dawn wall is free climbing, which is using rope and gear for perfection only. All climbing is done by your body.

Free solo is the same just minus the rope and gear.

According to the HDTGM podcast episode on the movie, it released in very few theaters and completely flopped and the film basically disappeared without a trace until someone rediscovered it recently and recognized its campy “so bad it’s good” brilliance and it developed a cult following.

I’m watching Pump Up the Volume.

This is easily my seminal pop culture film. It led me to my two favorite life long bands/musicians, mentioned above, and started my love of film.

I saw it when I was 16. I really can’t be objective about it because it’s played such a role in my life.

To me it is perfect.

Grade: N/A
I watched it about 6 months ago, I still liked it a lot.

Yeah, my bad, I've read a few reviews about a few different climbing docs recently and got my terms mixed up.

was grading papers and the remake of Secret in Their Eyes came on, with Nicole Kidman, Julia Roberts and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

First ten minutes and holy crap. Roberts and Ejiofor are cops or Feds or something and get called to the mosque that they are staking, because a girl's body has been found in a dumpster. Well, it's Robert's daughter.

The scene is devastating because of the two actors. I couldn't imagine. Just horrifying.

Not sure I want to watch the rest if this is how it starts.

The first film that I felt an affinity with on a number of levels was Performance.

Don't waste your time on this version of The Secret in Their Eyes. It's pretty weak.

The 2010 Argentinian version is much better.

El secreto de sus ojos is the original title.

You could graph my movie obsession with the x axis being how obsessed with movies I was and the y axis starting in 1990 with Pump Up the Volume, rising in 1995 with Before Sunrise, and then shooting off the chart with Fight Club in 1999.

1999 on I couldn’t watch enough film.

Clovis, my true movie obsession began in the 80s, when VHS happened. I'd go rent things I'd read about like Wings Of Desire, Blood Simple, and Aguirre: The Wrath Of God and just be blown away.

I'd put those three films right up there as the ones that most important to me.

Captain Marvel was a fine, fun popcorn movie. It's lighthearted and funny the way Marvel movies are, ultimately the plot is pretty forgettable but Brie Larson +Sam Jackson are good enough to carry the movie. It's probably a middle of the pack Marvel movie but does it's job in introducing a new character into the MCU and serves as filler before Endgame comes out next month.

Five Easy Pieces and Serpico were both important to me. Also Albert Brooks' Lost in America.
