I forgot this was coming out so soon, especially with all the Oppenheimer (and Barbie) hype.

LETS. GO.

Watched MI yesterday. Good fun as expected, though the unresolved nature of it being "Part 1" was frustrating.

8 Below was an instant favorite upon first viewing. Ive seen it at least 10 times since then, and I've watched many of the scenes on YouTube.

In my opinion, the dogs are the protagonist, nature is the antagonist. Humans are just involved to create the conflict. Plus Paul Walker is so dreamy...

The most significant scene is not anything to do with the human rescue mission. Ive yet to find the scene on YouTube and im probably one of few who even gave this scene a second thought.

The dog max was introduced at the beginning as "young, expect great things." Max was outcast from the pack early in the movie. Max is welcomed back after displaying his hunting planning and execution prowess.

After the successful hunt with max running point, the dogs all present their kills to the leader, a female named maja. She picks up one of the birds, and brings it to max. She places it in front of him, and she walks away. The rest of the dogs respectfully follow suit, presenting their kills to max. Max is the leader now.

The whole ceremony is ****ing majestic.

In my humble opinion, this looks pretty ****ing sweet.

Respect to Ridley Scott for still churning out these epics even at 85.

I’m a sucker for dog movies, but I love 8 Below.

In no order:

8 Below
101 Dalmatians
Art of Racing in the Rain
Marley and Me
Homeward Bound
Far From Home
Turner and Hooch

Some are not the best movies but my favorite books as a kid were Call of the Wild, White Fang, Where the Red Fern Grows. I've always liked dog books and movies.

It takes me at least a few scenes to empathize with human characters. Show me a paw and im instantly on its side.

Im also a sucker for dog movies. My favorites:

The Call of the Wild 2020
8 Below
White Fang
Milo and Otis(not dog specific, meh)
K9
101 Dalmatians
Beethoven

Notable movies with epic dog characters:

The Sandlot (The Beast)
A Christmas Story (the Bumpuss' dogs)
Summer School
Ferris Bueller
A Low Down Dirty Shame
Ghostbusters (sorry Rick Moranis lol)
Up

Invasion of Astro-Monster was awesome... Japanese language with English subtitles on the big screen plays VERY differently than the US dubbed version.

With this wide screen presentation, there was extra footage, the score is slightly different and the characters (specially the 'inventor character' Akira Kubo/Tetsuo Teri) are far more serious and lack any of the Bafoonery of the Broadcat American version.

great experience with a theater full of vintage Gojira fans...

Beautiful brand new Art theater here in vegas... maybe 150 seats max.

I don't know... I always have a huge issue trying to reconcile the language and accent issues and while the texture of the film looks good, I feel Joaquin might have been miscast in this role... but I will day 1 for this film for sure.

Language and accents generally don’t bother me unless it’s bad Southern.
I know a lot of people had an issue with the accents in A Small Light on Hulu but it was a nothing burger for me. Either way, Joaquin looks well cast to me.

It seems like the biggest issue is how they’re going to cover presumably his whole life in a 2.5 hour movie, but I have no doubt it will be quite the spectacle. Can’t wait.

The glaring example of this for me is Jodie Foster in The Silence of the Lambs. I don't even remember if it was a particularly bad accent; I just hate the trope of giving a character a Southern accent to make them more of an ingenue.

I'm sure I could come up with a lot of movies where accents bothered me, but the one that always leaps to mind is Enemy at the Gates, where Jude Law plays a Soviet sniper battling German sniper Ed Harris. Someone made the decision that the Soviets would have English accents and the Germans would have American ones. The entire movie is such an insult to reality that this aspect is only one more reason not to watch it.

for myself... I have to ask, the world is FULL of talented dialect correct thespians, and I thirst for new talent.

HIRE THE CORRECT ACTORS FOR THE JOB!

otherwise, it's merely a marketing ploy. We're just talking here... I will, of course, reserve judgement until I have seen the film.

A Ridley Scott Napoleon film with french actors would have been VERY HIGH on my list.

This is my biggest concern. It seems like they are going to mostly focus on several significant battle pieces and naturally Josephine. Hopefully we’ll get a monster director’s cut treatment down the road, as Scott did with Kingdom of Heaven.

Due for a re-watch of Kingdom of Heaven. The directors cut is truly great.

Personally Cockney Nikita Khrushchev was my favorite part of the movie. RIP Bob Hoskins.
