The score by Bernard Herrmann is excellent tho.

I dial it up every once in a while just to watch the section from where she gives notice at Lowood to the scene with Rochester by the fire after his fall from the horse.

Criterion Collection is running a 27-film Neo Noir that I’m really excited for. It’s one of my favorite genres but I’ve only seen a few from this list.

https://www.criterionchannel.com/neonoir

Films:

Chinatown
Night Moves
Farewell, My Lovely
The Killing of a Chinese Bookie
The American Friend
The Big sleep
Eyes of Laura Mars
The Onion Field
Body Heat
Blow Out
Cutter's Way
Blood Simple
Body Double
The Hit
Trouble in Mind
Manhunter
Mona Lisa
The Bedroom Window
Homicide
Swoon
Suture
The Last Seduction
Brick

I’ll probably watch them all but are there any musts?

Chinatown is in a league of its own in this group and almost all are well worth watching but if I was asked to name four other really good ones in the bunch they would be:

Body Heat
Night Moves
Mona Lisa

and Cutter And Bone aka Cutter’s Way. John Heard’s performance is one of the great ones from the 80’s and Jeff Bridges and Lisa Eichorn are both excellent.

Blow Out, Blood Simple, Manhunter, Brick

These all feature the filmmakers at their rawest. Well, not De Palma, but whatever Blow Out is great.

I got lent a copy of The Killing some years back. I think it was a good and lesser-known noir.

Cage in PIG and now A24's LAMB... anyone interested?

Speaking of A24, think I might actually see The Green Knight in theatres.

I read The Green Knight in college. I hope they don't screw with it too badly.

Trailer looks incredible, early reviews seem promising. I'm optimistic that it will reflect the bizarre nature of the Arthurian legend.

I just watched F9

Its so bad, its so good. This has to be the most absurd one yet right? Its should be labeled a comedy. Its hilarious that its so clear Vin Diesel is the only one taking this movies seriously anymore. Next time i fall of a cliff i have to remember to just land safely on a car. The Family vs The Avengers should be next.

Im so confused. Its a 0/10 and a 10/10 movie. I know what to talk about next shrink meeting

Going to see Pig on Monday night. Will report back. The Green Knight is directed by David Lowery who made A Ghost Story, one of the best films of 2017.

Me to... I have to see pig this weekend.
The trailer for lamb looks like a play on anthropomorphic feelings and whether or not 'cute' animals have souls...

i've enjoyed all of these, not a ranking, just the same order as your list:

Chinatown
Night Moves
The Big sleep
Eyes of Laura Mars
The Onion Field
Body Heat
Cutter's Way
Blood Simple
Body Double
Manhunter
Brick

Watched Blow Out last night, via Criterion Channel. GF had never seen it.

Not one of De Palma's best. Its well-directed, John Travolta is great, but there are plot holes and character motivations that don't make sense. And the famous ending just doesn't work...it probably looked amazing on the page to do wha=t they did, but it's so out of character for Travolta to use the scream he does, especially after what happened when he mic'd up a cop who was killed by the mob when it was discovered he was wearing a wire...Travolta was really affected by that.

And poor Nancy Allen...her career was never the same after this and Dressed To Kill...De Palma did her wrong by having her act like a ditz with a horrible voice. She never was a leading lady again.

This one has not aged well, but it's worth seeing...some great shots and sequences.

Lamb just might be one of the weirdest trailers I've ever seen.

I'm in.

as in a Allegory... we'll see. I can't really tell anything about the actual story from that trailer, but it certainly appears to be an Allegory for increasing regularity and acceptance for Anthropomorphism.

That movie gets better with age. It seemed too whimsical when it came out and now it seems more real to me, maybe because I learned that LA denizens can really be like that. Excellent show even though Marlowe's cat doesn't come back.

Did you spot a young Arnold Schwarzenegger's brief appearance?

Blood Red Sky - German/Czech production about a hijacking that goes terribly wrong for both the hijackers and the passengers. On board is a young mother who will stop at nothing to protect her child...and her dark secret. Imagine if Passenger 57 and Blade were the same movie. These vampire/zombie hybrids are pretty great....this one is quite gory with some fun, nasty scares. Very well done.
I watched both, Censor a few weeks ago. Censor was really dark anxiety filled psychodrama as Enid's career of watching hundred's of bloody horror films merges with the memory of her lost sister with no happy ending. Interestingly, the director intentionally narrows the film's aspect ratio for about 10 minutes at about 1 hour in for psychological effect.

Blood Red Sky is real popular it seems and had a great fun premise. Vicious plane hijackers look like they are going to get away with mass murder until they run into a highly protective mother-vampire with her child onboard. Extremely violent. Worth watching but I felt that the movie goes way over the top with the whole idea and a simpler plot would have been better. Flashbacks as how she got that way could have been shortened too.

Ha, having spent some time in LA myself I agree with you.

And yes! Couldn't miss the shirtless Arnold appearance

I'll do a recap of them all at the end but watched Night Moves and Body Heat...loved them both but thought Body Heat was absolutely spectacular. Kathleen Turner throws 90 the whole time

Kathleen Turner may well have been the last of the great Hollywood dames. I can't think of anyone else who's pulled it off since.
