Sam Houston taught old Santayana a lesson at San Jacinto. Remember the Alamo!

You guys realize that Indian Summer is in the fall right?

Is this whole thread dedicated to summer songs? Can we talk about other things?

I'm excited about the World Cup. USA has advanced out of the much ballyhooed Group of Death and will play Belgium Tuesday. USA#1 imo. We've conquered popular culture, and now we're conquering soccer.

I'm excited about the World Cup too! Haven't been able to watch as many games as I'd like because too much going on but it is exciting. (wth with that guy who likes to bite people? Why can't he control himself?)

Have you guys read about that stupid nanny in California who refuses to leave the family's house after being fired? Where are the Lounge lawyers? I want to ask them about this.

I'm pretty bummed that Mexico lost. Also, my flan won't set and I'm getting distressed about that as well.

She's clearly mentally ill. What question do you have?

Last I heard she left the house and was camped out in the police department parking lot.

You know I saw this on tv this morning. That lady has some nerve, just parking herself in this family's home. It reminds me of the movie Pacific Heights, where Michael Keaton is this evil pro renter who does stuff like this.

wow, hadn't heard that. haha the police department?

What's the term they use in California when you have someone admitted to the psych hospital involuntarily (here we call it "probated"). Could they have done that?

Couldn't they have said they needed to remodel their home or spray for bugs and then moved her stuff out onto the lawn?

Flan is under-rated. It's basically creme brulee, one of the goat desserts.

So what would be an appropriate thank you gift for a maintenance guy who comes to your apartment at 7pm on Sunday, finds and fixes a hole in your AC unit, and has it working within an hour?
fwiw, he's a little Mexican/American guy.
I was going to give condolences on his team losing, but didn't want to make him sad.

Not really. There is one right way to keep a nanny as a nanny and not a tenant under California law, and they didn't do it. She could actually win a wrongful eviction case if they did that.

The term in California is a 72 hour psych hold. If a conservatorship is required that is done in probate court, but it isn't automatic.

I suppose a hug is out of the question? Maybe offer him a beer?

so they have no recourse other than to file eviction paperwork? Couldn't they call the police and say they feel unsafe with her because she seems mentally unstable?

She could return back to their house after she was released.

well what the hell? so go through the eviction process? Why can't California punish this stupid woman for being a giant pain in the ass and causing this family hardship?
