While I may be an asshat, I'm not sure what a gimmick account is. I've participated in this thread more than you have, sir, and while you may not appreciate the point of view which I bring to the table, I do not believe you can invalidate me with this ad hominum attack.

I say, either rebut my positions or leave me be.

Do you really fish when you can or just when you want to? Anything other than advertised makes you an asshat, also.

It's an internet forum. She doesn't have to keep arguing with you if she doesn't want to. And seriously, no name calling in the Lounge. Read the rules.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

What about Mr. Guy-who-called-me-an-asshat? Is he exempt from the rules? And I don't think it counts as name-calling if it isn't direct. I referred to her as Churchy, but never called her that directly. But, I'll apologize because you're right. She can forfeit her arguments to me anytime she wishes.

OK, I officially apologize for the asshat comment. I shouldn't have done that and can admit that.

A gimmick account is an account a regular 2+2 user creates to post things they would rather not have associated with their "real" account. Usually you see this with people with very low number of posts who are trying their best to be "controversial" From your low number of posts, your going off on a religion/bible tangent and the general abrasive tone of your posts I made an assumption that this was a gimmic account

For the record I do not necessarily disagree with some of your opinions, I just hate the way you present them. Your presentation is giving you the appearance of an asshat. Not saying you are one. I am saying that your posts are giving that impression.

I really do Fish when I can and not nearly as often as I want to. So the advertising is 100% true.
And Yes, I can be an asshat at times as well. Not very often but every now and then I slip

Fish, hasn't it been at least 24 hours since your last story of your son setting buildings on fire, schools ablaze, baseball sized hailstones or freak storms depositing whales on the roof of your local 7-11? You're slackin', man. When does the next issue of The Rural Enquirer come out?

Or have you been abducted by aliens?

LOL, Ya, It has been a little boring around here the last week or so.
7-11?? I do not even know where the nearest 7-11 is from me.

I can say that it is really getting hot (it was 101 yesterday and about as hot today) and there are some areas getting really dry so our next big thing is going to be wildfires. We are still pretty green around here and the storms that have gone through have had a lot of rain in them so no fires, other than the one the boy started, around here so far.

The only other exciting thing is the boy is leaving for Alaska in two days. We are a little nervous about him making a trip like this by himself but I am sure it will be just fine. He should have a pretty darn good time. He will be doing a rock climbing camp and then in Denali for a week. I wish I was going.

I like the alien thing. I wouldn't mind meeting some aliens, as long as they stay away from the whole anal probe thing.

**** Edit to add ****
Almost forgot! I just found out that the boy and I both drew cow elk permits for this area so we will both be looking for elk to fill the freezer in a couple of months!!

For the record I have no problem being associated with incest, anti-censorship, anti-uninformed religiosity, nor do I have a problem being associated with the philosophical work of William James. I'm sorry if my abrasive presentation offended your sensibilities.

I didn't realize you were from Montana.

I stand by all those things and hope to plague these forums with those beliefs more in the future and thereby increasing my number of posts beyond their meager counting.

Secondly, it was not a general statement. It is a theory about the origins of all religion. All religiosity can trace its roots back to this one, singe feeling which occurs within humans. The divergent practices of various Xtian sects is irrelevant. Pentecostals, Catholics, Hindus can all trace the origin of their faith back to a caveman or proto-human who looked up at the sky and felt that there was something bigger than itself.

I find it hard to believe that anyone can read the entire Bible and come to terms with all the contradictions within it. It was standard practice within Catholicism to not read the Bible because the Church forbid any layman to read the bible! It was reserved specifically for the clergy as they were the only conduits to God. The reason they allow you to own a bible now is because a man named Martin Luther came around and told people, hey, you should actually read this thing.

And back to your whole incest thing: how do you think the children of Adam and Eve (all boys) populated the Earth? They banged their mom! (At least, according to the Bible).
There is a lesser known historical figure called the "Morning Star of the Reformation" (John Wycliffe) who translated the bible from Latin to English in 1382-1384. He died 99 years before Luther was born and before the invention of the printing press in 1439 so his importance is sometimes overlooked. He challenged the temporal power of the Catholic church and many Church practices before Luther did.

I think your assumption was correct Fish. I think duckwaltz is a gimmick and is trying to be controversial.

Duck, I am not happy with the tone in this thread. If you want to argue and be snarky and rude about religion and celebrate incest please go do it in another forum. That is not acceptable in this forum.

I was merely replying to topics which others brought up. While you find my personal views offensive, I don't think I "celebrate incest". Do you have any evidence to support this theory that I am a gimmick account? Please, if you wish to accuse me of such, present some evidence.

I trust Fish's instincts. You have few posts and yet you are ready to jump in and mock one of our regulars over her religious views. That's a little unusual for the Lounge. Not to mention you share an IP address with someone who's already posting in this thread.

I didn't say anything mocking until she refused to rebut my argument. And I mocked that fact. I think, by and large, I made intelligent points about religiosity, though they may have been phrased sarcastically.

The fact that I live with another of your regulars does not necessarily mean I am a gimmick. I'm sure if you could check the logs in 2005 you would see that my account was made from a different ip.

Also, the ad hominum attacks were made first by splendour against those of us who may not subscribe to a particular faith. I felt obliged to respond with a well-thought out reply, to which she declined to answer.

Duckwaltz and I are roommates, and therefore happen to be like-minded individuals. However, we have very different posting styles and ideas about many things. I am controversial already, I have no need to create a gimmick account to do such a thing. I am not ashamed of my views at all.

I did happen to fill him in on the background of Splendour and direct him to this thread, which led to him posting the way he did.

As for duckwaltz's in-your-face style, that is how he is in life.

Very well. You have vanquished me from this place but one day I shall return and you will rue it.

And when I return I will post in such a sophisticated manner that you won't even realize that I'm "celebrating incest"!
