Sugiyama takes off his watch and holds it in his hands in the final scene, while he walks over to the window and looks outside. There's a train in the distance. I don't want to give away too much of the ending, but there's a conversation about how two or three years in exile will pass by quickly. That may or may not be true, but it's a beautiful scene.

There's a more famous watch in a more famous Ozu movie, given to a widowed 30something woman by her father-in-law as a symbol that it's time to move on with her life, but that was a woman's watch, and besides, this one means more to me right now.

It seems like every movie memorabilia collection should have a sword, right. Lots to chose from though. I went back and forth on this one, but decided that a mystical ancient sword might be the best.
