So I was thinking a bit about Nanowrimo, and what I'll try to write 50k words of in November, and got to thinking that it might be neat to do a collaborative work in a short time frame. Like hours, not weeks or a month.

Here's my idea.

So maybe 5-10 people get together, and agree to carve out a 4-8 hour block in November all at once. No idea when it could happen, since we all have lives (I think), but when we decide to do it we'd figure out a date and time. We get on skype with headsets and open up a new google document and start pounding out a short story. Something less than 10k words or whatever submission guidelines to Asimov, or whatever dictate.

We come that day with ideas, discuss them and incorporate them together (throwing any out obviously) and just start writing the pieces of the story.

With enough people we'd be writing and editing each other at the same time so that the quality could be maintained.

The end goal would be to have a story worthy of submission somewhere. There's no way we could realistically pound out a publish-worthy novel in one day of work, but a short story should be more tractable.

Anyhow, I figure there are a lot of somewhat talented writers on this forum and perhaps it would be fun to do this sort of thing. Instead of it being a solitary story from one person's mind, we'd get a culmination of whatever best ideas we all have on that day. Different people could even write different characters to ensure that their "voices" are different.

I think this could be a lot of fun. Post here with any suggestions or how stupid this idea sounds.

And if we got it published anywhere, we could chop up the pittance it would net on Pokerstars or something. We obviously wouldn't be doing it for the money, since it wouldn't be much, but for having been part of a neat concept. Even if it didn't get published it could be pretty neat, and we could put it on here so that our peers can laugh at it.

I am just a lurker here but this sounds great and I would love to be a part of it.

Duke- are you going for it? I'm 1k deep from my lunch break today.

I'm waiting until after tomorrow to get started. Tomorrow morning I'll grab Towers of Midnight (unless I'm wrong about the release date) and will read it. Wednesday I'm starting in on my personal attempt.
