Thoughts? I was pleased with how good this album is. I'm of the camp that thinks Seventh Son of the Seventh Son was their last great album, but I continue to be impressed by the consistent quality of their music. And Dickenson still has the voice.

Don't really know where to put this but something terrible happened in Belgium at the pukkelpop festival.

Charles Haddon, singer of the brittish band "Ou Est le swimming pool" commited suicide in the backstage parkinglot at pukkelpop. It might be related to the performance he gave a few hours before that. In the last song he jumped into the crowd and a girl was critically injured taken to the hospital (she barely made it) ... Later they found him he hung himself. It's not really sure if the accident has anything to do with it, but it's possible.

I've got 14,000 or so songs on my iPod, so a year or so ago I started giving 5-star ratings to songs I love, so that they are included in my top rated playlist. I was listening to my top rated playlist today when "Till I Gain Control Again" came on - the Willie Nelson version of the fantastic Rodney Crowell song. Here is a version with Willie and Emmylou Harris - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OEZ9nAeFok

Now I usually just continue on through the top rated playlist on random, but this song pushed me towards Willie, who I enjoyed listening to for the next couple of hours while I grilled some dinner. Willie Nelson is incredible. Although he isn't the live performer he used to be - he's 77 years old - you need to go see him if he comes anywhere close to where you live and you haven't seen him before.

Added bonus - check out Willie doing "Uncloudy Day" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubxlAw7I9uQ

And Willie and Merle Haggard - "Pancho and Lefty" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iloyy...Acn&playnext=1

I don't think you need to be a Beatles fan at all to appreciate George Harrison's Indian influenced Beatles songs, especially The Inner Light, Within You Without You, and Love you To. I've been playing them a lot lately.

I rediscovered REM recently, especially the song E-Bow the Letter. The cello-sounding "E-bow" combined with Stipe's incoherent rambling and haunting background vocals by Patti Smith is insanely hypnotic.

As for the most recent band I've come to like: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, especially their first two albums (the third is still great, but more of a departure from the original sound). They are almost like a modern twist on Zeppelin and with a female lead and a more urban feel to it.

Been listening to drum and bass/jungle again recently, mostly the old-school drumsound influenced stuff. If anyone's interested, here's a really good Chris Inperspective set.
