Yeah, I think that sounds right. I don't remember seeing you Music: What are you listening to today? My memory isn't great. Honestly, I went for the beer. I probably didn't really appreciate him back then. I sort of viewed him like I view weird al now.

Other notable acts I saw there. Van Halen before they got big. Ramones and Runaways was really memorable.

I saw Ramones there when they were just starting out. They had this "Where are we?" look on their faces.

Saw the Ramones at a fairly small club in Providence. Couldn't hear well for a couple days afterwards. What I really liked about them was absolutely no chatter between songs. You know, none of that save the whales stuff, just 1, 2,3,4.

A++

I love all of Cohens work but there is something especially magical about the "I'm your man"-period and the harmonies with Perla Batalla and Julie Christensen. Their voices match so perfectly.

Can't pick a favourite, but I have a very soft spot for 'Take this waltz' from that period - especially the 60 seconds or so that start at the 4 minute mark:

They've been sentenced to death by the Blues.

Love the way he gives them the microphone and walks off.

When I'd be flying to Vegas to play, this would be my jam.

Nice to compare this to the Lorca poem. Cohen's song is a fairly loose translation.

I've got a 3-CD set of a concert he did in Iceland (live from reykjavik) where he talks about finding a book of poems by Federico García Lorca in a used book store when he was young and having his mind blown.

"sometimes it's true - you really do abuse me - you get me in a crowd of high class people - then you act real rude to me

but I wanna spread the news - that if it feels this good getting used - you just keep on using me - until you use me up"

this stuff was overshadowed by the super groups like Zeppelin and Cream - it's all but forgotten - but imho it's damn good

keyboard solo at 1:37 rocks my world
