People who intend to stay here for less than a year tend to plan their trips to avoid being here for the winter, so the people who are here atm are those that have been here for quite a while and have other connections besides poker players.

this has been discussed a few times in this thread. Seems like most poker players went with Swiss Medical.

I've got health insurance now through my Argentine wife, but I never got around to it before that. The only time I went to a see a doctor, I went to a free hospital. I had a very attractive doctor my age (intern, ldo) who spoke English perfectly and I never waited in line for more than 5 minutes or so.

Ok,

Generic question: I'm looking to plan a 3-week vacation in South America, sometime around October or November.

A few questions:
1. With only 3 weeks, what countries would you do/skip? I'm leaning towards Rio + BA right now, maybe squeezing in something else but probably wouldn't push it more than that.

2. Are there any cool events coming up that I should time my trip around?

Thanks,
-Z

The national soccer team is playing Spain (current world champions) next month in Buenos Aires.

There's a nice electronic music party next month too with Hernan Cattaneo and Danny Howells playing.

It´s furnished and very comfortable for poker, as I lived there for 3 years while playing, so it´s set up neat and nice (1 dorm exclusive for playing, very good L shaped wooden desk for PC, excelent light, city views from 11 floor, a good chair, etc).

By the way, when are you joining for lunch?

Luis.

As you guys may know, the Tuesday dinner thing has pretty much died when so many people left in the past few months. I know quite a few of you guys had said to me that you used to do it but got sick of always meeting so many new people. But since it's winter now and not so many people are around, I thought it might be a good time to put something together, as a chance to meet a few new people (or see some people who you don't see too often) who aren't going to bail after a couple weeks.

So, we'll be doing dinner next Tuesday the 24th at 9 PM, location to be determined. sapol and me will be there. Chairman Wood wants to attend as well, but doesn't know if he can make it, but he wants you all to know that he thinks you should go.

Also, Mr ArturiusX is welcome to join as well even though you apparently misplaced my friend request on facebook some time ago. ;p

Let me know if you're coming, for planning purposes.

I think its more, sick of meeting new people who are in town for 2 weeks who ask the same questions over and over, less meeting new long termers who have their **** sorted.

My facebook is on some spam list so I get roughly 10 people a week trying to add themselves, just pm my facebook before you do or have a common friend.

Ah ok. I suppose if their is an experience with people who demand lots and arent really going to offer anything due to their short stay its fair enough, I just couldnt really fathom a situation where meeting new people as a general concept could ever be considered a bad thing

It's just like Arturius says. No worries Fryke, you'll love your stay in BA. By the time it's summer more ppl will go back or visit for the first time.

What kind of food would you like to have?

I'm kind of on a budget right now because even though I started working recently I haven't received my first salary yet. Anything up to say...$70 would be alright for me.

it's not even that people are demanding, and it's nothing personal against anyone that passes through, but it's tough to maintain interest in meeting people that will be gone from your life in 2 weeks unless they offer something really unique, and "young online professional poker player" is the opposite of unique in a community of online professional poker players

obviously the dinners have still been a valuable resource that helped people meet each other and sometimes the group of attendees has been more stable than at other times - I threw that line into my post to try to entice some people to come out who had given up on it previously, not to discourage anyone

Hey guys !

I'm going back to Europe for a month in september and since electronic is damn expensive or simply impossible to get a plan for a non argentinia, I'm planning on bringing back a cellphone and maybe some more useless electronic gadgets (ipad...).

Do you know if I can contract a 3G plan or something not being Argentinian when I come back with a european device ?

Also, anyone would be down for some NLHE/PLO live game ? something like 0.5/1 or 1/2 all paid online

I suggest a small mixed game like 0.25/0,5 pesos with a mix of NL and PL games. I've been wanting to play PL Badeucy and NL 2-7 Single draw for a while. I wouldn't mind paying everything online.
