Movies: What have you seen lately - part 2 Movies: What have you seen lately - part 2

Agreed. Wahlberg has been in some absolute turds but at least he has some legit performances to go alongside. The others however, no one knows why they are still working. Same goes for Nicholas Cage. Why the **** does he keep getting parts? When you combine a bad actor with the the amount of mailing it in he has done in the last 10 years, Jesus, it's not like people go to see the latest Nic Cage movie even just because he's in it. Hollywood confuses me.

Cage is entertaining when given the right movie, he just cant or won't recognise crap scripts. he's not the charisma vacuum that those listed are.
10-18-2011 , 08:32 PM
Cage is a good actor. He just has bad spending habits which lead to him doing crap movies just for the paycheck.

How had I never heard of The Commitments until a few weeks ago which led me to rent it? Maybe the best movie about a band ever. Great music, great characters, writing, everything. 9/10

Wait Until Dark is nice too, <3 Audrey. A bit too stagey and predictable. Ideal candidate for remake/reimagine imo. 7/10

Street Fight is the best campaign documentary I've seen, just notching out The War Room. 9/10

Cage was top notch in The Sorcerers Apprentice. Not kidding.

Spoiler:
Kidding.

Spoiler:
But the movie was fun. Really.

Uhh, is this in terms of acting ability or just who you'd rather see in a film? Because in terms of acting ability, it's more like Wahlberg~Labeouf~Worthington. All three have ranged from horrid to passable in various films, but never really great. I had initial hopes for Worthington and thought he was the best thing about Terminator Salvation, but was a bland charisma vacuum in Avatar and everything else I've seen him in.

How to Die in Oregon

Wow, I knowingly turned on a documentary about terminally ill people choosing to end their suffering with assisted suicide... and was still blind sided with how heart wrenching it was. Very good doc.

lol OK. I think there's some kind of concerted effort to turn Labeouf into the next Tom Hanks type every man who appeals to everyone. Not sure who he has pictures of with child prostitutes in the Dominican Republic to further his career, but someone apparently believes in him.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I would like to do stand by me, but that's R so that's a no go even with a permission slip.

I actually just went through the wonder years on netflix streaming, found some really good episodes only to find out it's not available on DVD and Netflix as a sight is blocked by the school firewall.

I'm leaning towards The Mighty Ducks now. I would do FOOD Inc since one of the goals of the program is to learn healthy eating habits, but we serve them dinner before they go home each night and the vegetable is corn about 4 nights a week and I don't really need any of them arguing with the cooking staff about how corn is evil.

Thanks again,
Ken

On a movie-related note, the Drive soundtrack is pretty bad ass. During lunch breaks I walk around, throw on "Tick of the Clock" and feel like a bad ass! Makes me want to see the movie for a 4th time, think I'll do that next week

Caught Mike Mills long-awaited follow up to Thumbsucker, Beginners, today and really enjoyed it. It's a nice, sedate, moving piece with just the right blend of comedy and heartache for me. Great acting from Ewan McGregor and Christopher Plummer. Also Melanie Laurent must be one of the most perfect women on the planet. She is just so beautiful in this.

Recently I watched Tampopo. A must watch for any foodie. If you are a ramen lover like me (not the packaged kind of ramen), it's especially good.

Watched Grace Is Gone (2007) last night

Couldnt get into it. In fact Cusack's character just pissed me off to no end, and the slow pacing couldn't distract me. Thought the story was contrived and bland, but hey Im not American so that probly did help.

Gald this was only 85mins.

The only good thing, Shélan O'Keefe! Why hasn't she done another film, thought she was great

I didn't even realize it was based on a book. I thought the movie was pretty good.

In Ireland, this movie is about as famous as it gets. Everyone has seen it. Top movie.

Have you seen Once btw? Because it's worth noting that Glen Hansard is actually in the Commitments as a young man (he's the guitarist). Also one of the girls had a small role in Pulp Fiction.

Lemme guess--she has piercings.

You'd have to be crazy not to know and like The Commitments.

+2 for Duel. I've never been a huge fan of most movies made before I was born but I remember watching this when I was younger and really enjoyed it. I forget what happens in the end so I guess it's time to rewatch it. The guy in the car sort of looks like my dad.

How to Train Your Dragon
This has been on HBO a lot lately and I've probably seen it 3 times now. Toothless is too cute to turn it off.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes is one of my new favorite movies. I loved the story most of all (esp compared to the other ones). I hope they do another one soon.

Caesar was AMAZING
10-21-2011 , 02:35 AM
THe original pentet were pretty good in my opinion (well, the last one, not so much). Beneath the Planet of the Apes is definitely one of my favourites amongst movies that are completely whacky.
10-21-2011 , 02:59 AM
Hmm I did not like Rise but when I saw it I was really ****ing tired even before I went to the theater
