I sort of hate Jackie Brown.. Not because there is anything wrong with the film but because of the people who basically hate QT and call JB his best film only because it is the least QTesque of his films.

Not a fan of Jackie Brown.

There was something...annoying about it to me. I mean, first of all, you know he only cast Pam Grier for some sort of cred or to resurrect her career (as he did with Travolta) or something. OK, fair enough (plus, she was pretty damned good in it).

Also, the story is just nothing special, and, well, it's not all that enjoyable, really.

Everything feels...forced.

I like Jackie Brown, it was on a few months back and I remembered it being slow and that was why I never wanted to watch it again but I was into it and it was much better than how I remembered it.

I love QT and think Jackie Brown is his 2nd best work. Much slower and more subtle than most of the rest.

It's his second worst film after the horrid Dusk to Dawn. He is one of the best ever directors and worst ever actors.

I don't like Jackie Brown either. I also consider it his second worst movie, but I think his worst is Death Proof.

NONONO. Depending on your level of drunkenness, From Dusk Till Dawn is the greatest movie ever made. As you get to more sober, it becomes Highlander, then approaching sobriety and much lower intoxication levels, it becomes A Matter of Life and Death

We should do a thread on Best film when (a) sober (b) drunk with friends (c) ****faced maybe...

I have bolded the films on your list that negate the positive impression of having ranked the others so highly.

I've seen Jackie Brown at least in parts sooooo many times. I swear it is always on TV.
07-30-2011 , 06:36 AM
Oh ya

Jacknife - DeNiro and especially Ed Harris are amazing here movie is so-so. 7/10

Room in Rome - Hilariously pretentious, lots of nudity ftw? 3/10

Zombie Girl: The Movie - 13yo girl making a feature zombie movie, really good doc. 8/10

Double Dare - Doc on female stunt women featuring Zoe Bell. Cool. 7/10

Hot Tub Time Machine
- Ugh. 2/10
07-30-2011 , 08:06 AM
Agree about Room in Rome. I thought it was unwatchable, and that's saying something considering the amount of nudity and the gorgeous female leads. It was the first time I remember looking at a film and shouting, "Just STFU!"

I enjoyed Hot Tub Time Machine but somehow agree it doesn't deserve more than a 2/10.

That's the whole problem with that Imdb rating, people either give their favorite movie a '10', which is a perfect movie and obviously doesn't exist or they think it's total **** and rate it a 1 which is often inaccurate as well. Even if you totally detest a movie there often even small points that stand out, either that or it was a movie you should have avoided in the first place and you knew would be a total waste of time.

Stalker

I cannot believe it took me this long to see this. Now I feel stupid.

It's OK, though. this happens a lot.

Anyway, if you claim to love films, but somehow have something bad to say about this one, I probably won't listen to the rest of what you have to say.

It is, technically, a science fiction film, but you won't find much similarity to Alien vs Predator here.

Every single shot in the film could be reproduced as art in and of itself. The movie itself moves at its own pace, as well it should.

If you haven't seen it, you definitely should.

This goes directly into the pantheon of greatness for me.

Haven't seen Dusk to Dawn but Death Proof is easily worse than Jackie Brown.

Rushmore,

You make up for your procrastination with excellent judgment. I love the pace of this film (and Solaris). You need time to explore the depths of consciousness.

didn't like the characters or the dialogue that much in Stalker, but it was pretty good despite that

I can't shake it from my mind.

I have to say, I consider it a sort of Apocalypse Now, only much better.

And I really like Apocalypse Now.

Saw Midnight in Paris a third time last night and i swear it gets better each time. It's my favorite movie of the year so far, it's going to take a hell of a movie to take down this contender.

There's a major aspect in the film that does it for me

Spoiler:
Paris in the rain. I am engaged to the woman I love, and during our first date it started raining while we were walking through our city. I didn't have to ask her if it's ok if we kept walking, we walked for at least an hour. There's something about walking in the rain I love and Allen captured that for me. Such a perfect end to the film.

From Dusk Till Dawn is absolutely hilarious imo. It's downright stupid and I wouldn't blame anyone for thinking it's a 3/10 movie but I don't care. Guilty pleasure I guess.

True - the 10 for American Beauty was no orginal view...2nd viewing.8. Should change that rank.

Dogma - I just love it on a personal level for some reason that covers all the flaws.

And Mars Attacks -If I saw it again it might end up a 6 but I haven't and at that momement the pure sillyness and Slim Whitman. Made it a 10.

Fair enough, but to me, Dogma is a pile of feces. It is the epitome of all reach and no grab.

I just made that up.

QT did the screenplay for From Dusk Till Dawn, Robert Rodriguez directed it. I guess Kurtzman paid QT $1500 to write the screenplay based on his story, looks like you get what you pay for.
