Okay, I will relent. Please do not watch Enter the Void, or the next time we see a TR pic from you it will be of you jumping off some mountain.
This is another one of those internet bandwagon bruhahas...

Enter The Void is better than 99% of the films that have ever been made (which still, to me, only makes it "good, but not great"). I think it became inane toward the end, but all the hate it's getting is like the cool kids' table all creating some sort of common hallucination.

Orange,

They are probably right. Give the film a chance. Please. Looking forward to your TR.

Sorry Rushmore but I genuinely think it is among the worst films I have ever seen.

i will admit that clovis' review of enter the void made me want to watch it. maybe i'll get drunk and attempt to watch it one day, we'll see. i'll be sure to give a TR through it as well.

Sorry, Rushmore and fds....Enter the Void is an interesting failure....nothing more.

The Evil Dead

In a remote cabin in the woods a group of friends are attacked by the dark forces they unwittingly unleash

Ok it wasn't the terrifying masterpiece of horror I remember watching as a young teen but its still pretty scary and full of energy. The acting was a bit wooden in places. They bit off more then they could chew with the closing special effects and it was a bit rushed at the beginning. Overall though its still way more unsettling and entertaining then many movies made with real actors and substantially bigger budgets.

I'm telling you, that strains credibility.

I mean, since I know you have seen a LOT of movies.

Maybe I'll take some mushrooms and watch Enter the Void and enter into the discussion

yeah i "get it": bleak, poverty, character-driven, some moments of tension.

still boring enough that doesn't deserve all the praise it got - although considering the entire universe of critics and laypeople liked it, i dunno, maybe i'm missing something but i'm too disinterested to care.

6/10
I pretty much agree.

I assume everyone recognized Tear Drop from other projects, but did you all catch the sheriff?

I've been playing poker for years now, but I'm new to 2+2 and I'm kind of overwhelmed with all the information available. But I also see a lot of movies, so I figured I'd post links to some of my more recent reviews:

The King's Speech

Red

The Green Hornet

Salt

Winter's Bone

Catfish

those are some nice thorough write ups... well structured and easy to digest.

I can not say if we have similar tastes or views, but your stuff is very well executed!

welcome to the board and to the movie thread

even though your blog does a great job of providing reviews... we like to post the text up directly in this thread to keep the offsite linking to a minimum.

do one at a time as you see them, we'd all enjoy reading fresh thoughts on new and past releases.

Watched Assassination of Jesse James and while I found it visually stunning, I though the plot as a whole was terribly boring. Was really pretty disappointed.

ya, i did not like it that much as well, when i saw it a couple of months ago. i thought it was way too drawn out, although the end was pretty decent.

+1,000

I still haven't finished it...I've got about 20 minutes left to watch.

Rushmore is so right about how great the Jesse James movie is.

And I'm from Missouri and know some Jesse James.

As I've discussed in one of the book threads, TJ Stiles' biography of Jesse James is excellent.

I cant really understand how a cinema lover could not like Jesse James. It is pure cinema in every way.

It is very pretty and all, but imo a movie should also try to make sure that there is enough of a story to keep the viewer constantly sucked in and entertained. I think Sam Fuller, though not as elegantly, sets up very similar characters in the 80 minutes of his I Shot Jesse James.
