Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3 Movies: Talk About What You've Seen Lately--Part 3

Considering how memorable/iconic/good 'he was some kind of a man, what does it matter what you say about people... adios,' as the pianola starts to play, and the big reveal on just what 'rosebud' is/represents, are as endings The Third Man must have one hell of an ending.

I only remember the chase through the sewers, no specific dialogue. Then again I think I've watched those other two both more recently and more times than The Third Man. I should probably watch The Third Man again sometime.

Paul Silly comedy from Pegg/Frost about 2 guys on an alien tour that find an actual alien. This is pretty much what you would expect from these guys. Lots of gags, some work, some don't. Not as great as Shaun of the Dead but worth the watch.

Watched Best of Enemies, documentary about the Vidal-Buckley debates during the 1968 Republican and Democrat conventions. Entertaining and it makes the point that their arguments set a terrible precedent for today's standards of political punditry, at least in the US. Think it's better here in the UK although I have seen similar crap on Sky News. The debates were awful; this wasn't a case of two guys who had mutual respect for each other despite their political differences; they despised each other. That led to debates that had no substance or analysis, instead consisting of exchanges of insults.

IV is a terrible film. Two really good fights held together by some patriotic cold war propaganda and the very worst examples of 80's rock music videos.

lol, I guess patriotism rubs some of y'all the wrong way. You were probably all supporting the nuclear freeze back then and sneering at Ronald Reagan.

Given it is without a doubt the worst human emotion and arguably the only one with no positive effects, yes it rubs me the wrong way.

For god and country... Seven Days in May

After seeing the Revenant a second time I became acutely aware that the voice "dubbing" in the movie added some weird spooky effect that created a dreamy atmosphere to the dialog.

I noticed it to. Was it intentional? Especially when the native americans were speaking it was obvious.

Once they heard "we got bush!" It was a matter of time.

And in a semi related note, just watched the musical(?) Pitch Perfect.

If they hadn't butchered and raped
(in that order) the songs I grew up to,it would have been a good movie.
Actually,if they took out the singing,it would have been pretty good.

Creed
Awesome and a nigh on perfect feel good film.

Legend
Not so awesome biopic on the Kray thugs, elevated somewhat by Hardy's performance and a chucklesome turn from Chazz Paliminteri as The Most Stereotypical Mafia Guy on Earth, who actually utters the immortal line "you kids gotta lotta bawls!".

Savages
Pretty meh crime flick and Oliver Stone has truly lost his mojo.

Also had a Bond triple bill.
Casino Royal
Kicking myself I never watched this earlier it kicked ass.

Quantum of Solace
Horribly edited but entertaining enough if somewhat frantic.

Spectre
Found this one pretty crappy actually and decidedly lacklustre.

Hey I'm not even American and even I was shouting GOD BLESS AMERICA! When watching Rocky IV and got away with it too cuz I was just a kid at the time. And it was the 80s, it was all about cold war propaganda and rock music vids, the cheesier and more excessive the better. It was a lot better than one direction or that whingey James Blunt crap, lemme tell you.

I remember seeing Rocky IV in the theater, knowing ahead of time that Apollo gets beat to death, and having my mom take me to the lobby during that fight.

This thread is reminding me I am due for a Rocky marathon. I do it every couple of years and have been wanting to ever since seeing Creed.

I don't hate people who diss Rocky movies ... I pity da fools!

Looking for a recommendation of a "cool" movie or centers around a "cool" character. Quintessentially, Im thinking James Bond-esque or as another example, the Ocean's 11 series.

Even something like Thank You For Smoking. I remember walking away thinking the character was very witty / cool.

Hopefully what I mean is clear

Man From U.N.C.L.E. movie that came out in 2015 (very cool characters, especially Napoleon Solo)

Layer Cake (pre Bond Daniel Craig)

Thomas Crown Affair (original is a bit dated, but still good; remake is quite good)

Man from U.N.C.L.E. prob my biggest surprise package of the year. Thought it was excellent. Cavill nails it.

Original Rocky was brilliant, but has been copied so much maybe it wouldn't feel special now.
