yeah, fwiw I don't actively dislike him and have never regretted watching his movies. I just don't think they're that special.

Saw "Daddy's Home" (not by choice)... very shocked it is doing so well box office wise. Meh comedy, some funny bits, overall forgettable.

Don't really care for the debate, but downtalking Nolan as a director is just dumb. People will flock to see any movie Nolan makes purely because it has his name on it and he does stuff other directors just can't do

Plus comparing him to Abrams is laughable when the 4 best films between them both, belong to Nolan and JJ Abrams entire canon consists of 1 original movie, which was a massive homage to Spielberg anyway. He did make the 3rd best MI film tho!!!

I didn't think Interstellar was boring.

Cloud Atlas seems like it'd be pretty bad, but I still sorta want to see it. It seems like it already came and left netflix streaming.

Got 50. Lots of clues I just couldn't connect on?

This thread is going to get silly if we start pretending Abrams is some kind of great director. He is basically a for hire ghost writer.

guess that's why you don't run any studios

as far as Interstellar, the docking scene was I thought one of the best scenes of 2014. showcase of nolan's talent and zimmer's creativeness.

Um JJ is WAY ahead of Nolan in terms of box office. He was barely behind him before Star Wars came out.

We've had this discussion about what makes artists great. Maybe entertaining the masses is, in itself, some form of greatness. I for one really like his movies. It's no Godfather but at the same time I can watch Armageddon over and over. If something entertains me, no matter how simplistic it seems to be, I'm happy.

abrams is at 1.6b (with star wars) against 800m in budgets, nolan is at 2.1b against 1b in budgets

they're about the same commercially, no idea what you're looking at

plus when you get to make films that have Mission Impossible, Star Trek and Star Wars in their name, you are going to make bank regardless of the director

My bad I thought the numbers didn't include Star Wars. Either way, it's not like any studio head wouldn't murder someone for either director on thier team.

Nolan has made the only great film of the two. Memento.

it's pretty absurd to compare jj and nolan.
nolan is so clearly superior in every way.

and I'm not a huge nolan fanboy.

Just saw Hateful 8 and thought it was a pretty bad movie. Easily my least favorite of QT (haven't seen grindhouse)

+1, even though I know how beloved The Prestige is around here.

Mr. Nobody Wow. Just wow.

How have I never heard of this? I'd try to describe it but nothing I could say would do this justice. It is an amazing ****ing movie in every way. Best I've seen in quite some time.
